Dear All

We are looking for a springer spaniel puppy who comes from show stock, who has been docked and dew-clawed for working.  We are looking for a dog that has more show in him than working as the show dogs tend to be on the bigger side than the frenetic little working english springer spaniels.  We already have a large springer and he is an incredibly steady working dog but also fits into our family situation. Can anyone help?

I doubt that show stock people would dock now unless they work them too and of course any of their working docked dogs won't be able to be shown unfortunately.

Bit of a tricky one this :d  I'll ask around on a couple of the gundog sites that I go on.

Well they will be able to be shown, but not at any shows that charge a public entrance fee.

Hi Plynes

I completely understand what you mean regarding the show v working ESS having 4 myself (1 working and 3 show) they are almost like completely different breeds.

Do you intend to only work your new addition or are you also interested in showing, FT etc.?  If you only intend to work then it might help looking at one of the dual purpose ESS breeders as many of the purely show bred dogs would struggle in the field for a full days shooting!

If you PM me I can put you onto a couple of UK kennels that breed dual purpose ESS I am not sure however how long you would have to wait and am certain they would have full tails.

You will really struggle to get a docked puppy, unless the litter has been specifically bred for working and subsequently registered as such.

Regards
Vicky
It's not how much I love my dogs, it's how much they love me that's important!!!

Just the usual suspects I suspect, I didnt go coz of leaving the 2 youngsters all day, but then Charlie has been off of work sick all week... after saying that he couldnt have time off work to look after them as he was too busy..... he's now off sick when he could be at work, had viral infection which affected his asthma but is fine typical man, hes dying of course you know when men get a cold theyve got flu......

Driving me insane with his but Im not well when asked to do something, but not stopping him from playing trains in his shed this afternoon... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Hopefully you are lurking so I've sent you a PM with someones details who has a male puppy available.  They are working lines but from someone who prefers to bring in the slightly calmer side of the ESS :d   Good luck in finding a pup.

Are ESS supposed to have a calmer side, not in my book they're not, they're working dogs and a calm dog doesn't cut the mustard when doing what they've been bred to do.

If people want a calm dog then don't get a working dog.

It doesn't say calm it says slightly calmer!!  Actually I'm not going to say who they are but they have done very well on the working side with their dogs!

Don't know why I bother sometimes
