Hello
Can anyone help? I am trying to find a Border x Lakeland Terrier, I have heard that there may be a breeder in the Hastings, East Sussex area. I have been all over the internet and can't seem to find anyone who deals with the cross breeding of the two.
I live in the Surrey area but am more than happy to travel for the right dog.

Any help or advise that anyone can offer will be greatly received.

Many thanks, Vicki

I think this cross is often called a Patterdale Terrier and you are most likely to find details of breeders in the sporting and hunting publications as they are entirely a working terrier.

Isn't the Patterdale a breed in it's own right? Although it may have orignated from these breeds (I don't know)? I do know someone who has one though and it has a pedigree and some sort of patterdale club registration?

A Patterdale or Fell terrier are the same breed, a Border cross Lakie is just that a crossbreed.

Buy the Countrymans weekly newspaper form WHSmith on a Wednesday, its a working dog paper, you may find some in there.  They will be essentially working Terriers though and will NOT make ideal pets.

border lakelands are a well known cross used for working purposes.........get a copy of countrymans weekly as there is usually plenty advertised in there.

Are Patterdales the same thing or not, as I was led to believe they are?

As far as I have been led to believe Patterdales originally came from the Lakeland.  A group of people who used the Lakeland to work were not happy with the way the breed was going and started cross breeding to give them their ideal working dog.  They have been crossed with many other breeds since then and you will find different variations throughout the country.  My Patterdale certainly has some Border in her and possibly a Staffie has been used further back in her lines.  They are a brilliant breed and thank goodness not hampered by being recognised by the Kennel Club.
