It is not a breed but a mongrel. Have you considered trying your local rescue centre.

Shih Tzu crossed with a Poodle I should think, namely a mongrel, cross breed or Heinz 57. Whichever one you prefer :d

I think you will find that it is a cross breed I'm afraid!!

No, there's a recognised breed called a 'Shih Tzu', but a 'shihpoo' is a crossbreed.

No, it is not recognised by the Kennel Club. It is a crossbreed with a silly name much favoured by puppy farmers because of the stupid prices they can charge for them.

Both Shih-Tzus and Poodles are non shedding breeds and great little dogs in their own rights. There is no advantage to crossing them.  Like with any crossbreed (and speaking as the owner of a crossbreed) you simply don't know what you're going to get and rescue centres are full of dogs that might fit your criteria.

Otherwise, if it a kennel club registered breed you are after, then best to select a breed and then find a reputable breeder via the relevant breed club which is a good way to be sure that your puppy will have been bred responsibly, from healthy parents by a breeder who cares about their dogs and the breed as a whole.

Nope & never will be the KC would never recognise a"designer"dog with a silly name. Some of the breeds they are only just recognizing have been around for over 50 years upwards

Well, i dont think you are being very friendly.  I didnt asked to critised for my choice of dog, nor did i asked for your opion, i simple asked if anyone knew of anyone who had any, and where i could get one.  So i will leave now, and not responed again.  Thanks for your help, not!

Crossbreeds like this are produced by puppy farmers to rid well-meaning but gullible buyers of their hard-earned cash. They're not KC recognised and never will be, because the parents aren't of the same breed.

This isn't meant to be a criticism of you, but is meant to help you avoid a potentially very expensive mistake.

I'm sorry you feel you haven't had the best welcome Shell, and unfortunately you're right, but it's only because the people on here care deeply about dogs.

You can pick up one of these shihtzu/poodle cross breeds in the free papers, or on internet puppy sites to answer your question.

Please be very careful though, not only are you likely to pay more for something that isn't KC registered it's also possible it will have been bred by a puppy farmer with no regard for health testing. Puppies like this often cost a fortune in vet bills for the new owner.

If you really want one of these crosses rather than an actual breed then I would advise (as with any pup) that you visit the litter, don't under any circumstances have one delivered, don't let the seller meet you somewhere. Make sure you see them in the home with the mother, ask about health testing and see for yourself the mothers temperament.

people are not being unfriendly.  they are trying to make you aware of the fact that there are irresponsible people out there breeding these so called designer dogs and charging people over the odds, by making up a catchy name for them, such as  labradoodles, yorkie poos, shih poos to name a few.  You could visit a local rescue  centre and find what one of these crosses there and not end up paying over the odds!!

I don't think anyone had been unfriendly.

However, if you are determined to line the pockets of someone who, more than likely, keeps dogs as breeding machines with the sole intention of taking ridiculous amounts of money from naive people for puppies which may not be of the best health and temperament; then feel free.

People here are only trying to advise.  If you don't mind supporting puppy farming and are prepared to gamble on spending the next 12-15 years with a dog of questionable health and temperament then that is entirely your decision but best you be aware of he facts sooner rather than later.
