The best place to start is with the breed clubs.  They will be able to put you in touch with reputable breeders who will have carried out all the necessary health tests for the breed.  Prepare yourself for a wait as fewer people breed for brown but please do not be tempted to get a puppy through the free ads or similar.

Oh, and you do realise that browns are more 'challenging' than the blacks, don't you?  I didn't and no-one thought to mention it until AFTER I'd got my brown girl  Now there is much pointing and laughing from more experienced people in the breed when they find out my first Newf is a brown  :D

If you can't eat it or chew it, pee on it & walk away

This is probably a really silly question but why does colour make any difference to temperment???People tole me this when i was choosing my puppy. Is it an old wives tale or is there actually proof?
The more i experience men, the more i appreciate dogs.

Not sure about it being an old wives tale but it certainly is true in my case so I tend to believe the experts- people who have had both as my experience has proved it. I have a black and a brown newf, my black is the most laid back dog that I have ever owned (a lot to do with the breed of course) she always does as she is told, she is a dog that loves to be praised and will do anything you ask of her. My brown newf on the other hand is the one that pushes the boundaries, she jumps up at people, tables, counters, she is cosnstantly on the go and is always looking for things to amuse herself - whether we like it or not  I wouldn't change either of them for the world because they are both fantastic but she is much harder work than my black newf. Sayng that though she is a walk in the park compared to my first ever dog who was a dobe. All you dobe owners out there will know exactly what I am saying.:-)

It may be true where totally or largely different lines are bred in the different colours, it won't apply if the colours are regularly mixed.  the reason is that you wil be getting different lines whcih will ahve family characteristics, hence differences between colours in breeds that are largely not bred together.

It's certainly true in some breeds. For example black Skye terriers are much more laid back than the creams or silvers. Someone told me it's because the other colours were the original and they introduced black Cocker Spaniel eek to give the black colour.

if thats the case red bullies would show dogue de bordeaux characteristics...the red bullmastiff was apparently created from this addition (you get red from the bulldog side but its a v. different red than the bullmastiff has)...never noticed a difference in the behaviour to be honest
you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here
