Getting mightily confused here  Does rice contain gluten? Half the stuff that comes up on Google says it does, the other half says it doesn't. Some dog food ingredients list "rice gluten". So does it or doesn't it?

As I understand it most grains contain gluten, depending on how they are processed.

Gluten intollerances are commonly from wheat or maize/corn - not at all sure if the processing difference is what causes the issue though confused  Perhaps only affecting cereal grains ....

Why bite when a simple growl will do ;-)

Thanks for that Teri :-)

Putting various search terms into Google but still not coming up with anything very clear  Strange as the answer is probably very simple.

I had originally assumed that a dog with an allergy to rice would be reacting to the gluten in it, but maybe that's not the case..?

Rice does not contain gluten, neither does Maize/corn. I am a Coeliac totally intolerant of gluten. The only cereals to contain gluten are Wheat, Barley, Rye and Oats. Dogs if intolerant of gluten usually only react to the one in wheat. It may be that rice and other cereals can and do become contaminated from gluten containing cereals during processing.  Hope this helpscool

Another Celiac person!

I too am celiac, just recently diagnosed.  But no, rice doesnt have gluten in it.  thank goodness, thats all I seem to be able to eat: meat potatoes and rice.

Interestingly enough, just out of curiousity one day, I checked the food I was feeding the dog, and it didnt have any gluten in it at all.  I said to myself "Yay, all I can eat is dog food"  lol  This was when I was having a hard time adjusting to the new diet, after 47 years of being not diagnosed and being told I cant have this and cant have that.

Anyways, off topic a bit.  But no, rice isnt a gluten product.
This is the last time I will allow you to take a breath from my lungs to fill your own.
