Hi All. Has anyone experience of feeds chappie. My girl has been on royal canin's sensitivity diet for some time now. Iv been told that vets recomend chappie as its easy to digest. My thoughts are, how can it be that good when its so cheap. After all you get what you pay for these days.

Chappie is cheap and for many "cheerful" too however it does have a variety of ingredients in which, since your dog already requires a "sensitivity" type diet, may well not be at all suitable.  Vets recommended this for donkeys years for dogs recovering from gastro type conditions but since then more bland and less ingredient intense alternatives have been made by the large pet food manufacturers.  Many dogs will still do well on Chappie - tinned or complete - but it's no longer seen as *the* best food in all these situations

While prescription diets are often very over priced in comparison to the myriad of OTC diets, equally they are sometimes all that certain dogs can have so if your dog is on one for a specific veterinary condition then if you would like to change perhaps the better route would be onto an alternative food aimed at sensitive tums or even a home prepared diet.

I have been giving this to my dog along with JWB for a little while now and he loves it. His poo has never been better either.
I tend to stick to the new cereal free kibble but he does prefer to have the moisture mix of chappie..........smells horrid though.

Depends why your dog is on a sensitivity diet.  If like my JRT its because of food intolerances then Chappie I wouldn't reccomend, but if its for sensitive stomach like my Rottie X GSD suffers with then its definatly worth giving the chicken and rice variety a go.  My girl since being on that has not had another problem, it has also helped I think with her constant bladder infections and stones.

Thanks for your replies. My girl was on the vet diet following pancreatitis & IBS. She has other health problems as well. Since recovering & being on this food she's done well & not had recurrence. The vets have left it up to me-she can stay on vet diet or change. At the moment she's having half & half & doing well. at over £1 a can iv got to look at other options. I do like her on wet food- im not a great believer in dry foods.

My friend feeds her sensitive fellow Naturediet chicken and rice.  This seems to suit him fine.

Burns now do a moist food, Lamb and rice with veg. No additives or preservatives- that is all it contains. The 800g can works out at about 1.75. Burns have a nutritional helpline and I have always found them to be really helpful. When my GSD Max had pancreatic problems many years ago, Burns was recommended by my vet and it really helped . He was on Burns for many years without any further pancreatic problems.

IMO pancreatitis and IBS (or was it the considerably more serious IBD ) would be good reason to avoid a food like chappie.  As with other suggestions I think you should go for something like ND or possibly the new tinned Burns (which I haven't personally used - hence the italics )

Run by your vet if s/he thinks there were any associations to an intolerance in diet with the above conditions - no point in going back the way!

Nature Diet Sensitive Gold is a very good one and all my JRT can tolerate.  Even the other ND types cause him problems.

My dog lost a lot of weight and had the runs for months, tried the chicken and rice option no good had poo sample done vet said he had IBS, he went in the hills diet but was ok eating tripe & chappie spoke to his breeder said it might be gluten,, searched the market he is now on Skinners Salmon and Rice with a bit of Chappie mixed in just to taste and he is doing really well.. execpt when I thought for New Years Day he would like a bit of Roast beef and veg mixed in .. straight back to poorly tum so wont be doing that again..But he has done so very well on this food
