Well my handsome boy has had to cross the bridge

Devastation does not seem strong enough a word

I posted on the health forum a while ago about Archie (Itch to his friends :-) ) who was suffering from Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Things got better for a short time but sadly went downhill again until the heartbreaking decision had to be made....Xmas eve of all days, dont think I will ever think about Xmas in the same way again :-(

Just wanted to thank everyone who was kind enough to take the time to reply to my post with thoughtful and informative advice.
I just hope now he is back to being full of bounce, vigour and energy that if I could bottle could make a fortune! :-) He really was one in a million and I am proud that I was lucky enough to have been owned by him, even though it seems now a very short four years.

My vet sent me a card with a beautiful poem which tugged at my heart strings which I would like to share with you, it seemed to have been written for Itch. i am sure some of you may have seen it before.
I hope I dont get into trouble for putting it on here but hoped it may help other people who have to make the difficult decision to have their beloved dog PTS.
Kind Regards and warm wishes to everyone on the boards

If it should be that I grow weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep
Then you must do what must be done
For this last battle cant be won

You will be sad I understand
Dont let your grief then stay your hand
For this day more than all the rest
Your love for me must stand the test

We've had so many happy years
What is to come can hold no fears
You'd not want me to suffer so
The time has come to let me go

Take me to where my needs they'll tend
And please stay with me til the end
Hold me close and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see

I know in time that you will see
The kindness that you did for me
Although my tail its last has waved
From pain and suffering I've been saved

Please do not grieve it must be you
Who has this painful thing to do
We've been so close, we two these years
Dont let your heart hold back the tears

Sorry to hear your sad news Loulou, I know what you mean about christmas never being the same again as I lost Inga christmas eve also its strange what goes through your mind on the day I was hoping noone else was in the same position I was in and feeling as bad as I felt.
Christmas just came and went like any other day as far as we were concerned tried to just go through the   motions but it was very hard.

Very sorry to hear about Archie. Never posted at the time as I try only to post when I feel I have some knowledge on a subject to give. Sorry to hear that he has lost the battle.
The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.
