I already have an apointment at the vets tonight but would appreciate your comments in the meantime.

My girl was mated on Christmas Day and boxing day (days 10 & 11 of her season). She stopped bleeding on friday. Last night and this morning (day 23 of season, day 13 from 1st mating) she had a creamy discharge with a very pale tint of green. No ofensive smell although if dabbed on a tissue smells sort of "irony."

Of course I am very worried in case it is a pyo but could it be also vaginitis (I cannot find any pictures on the internet of vaginitis). She has been a little more relaxed since the mating itself but other than that is not off in any other way (perhaps a little tucked up).

I know some dicharge is a good indicator of pregnancy but this is too early.

Could her system just be clearing itself out?

Anyone else had this happen.

I would get it checked out just to be on the safe side.  Even although with my bitch I had the same thing for some time throughout her pregnancy but she went on to deliver a healthy litter.

Last time a boxer bitch of mine had a greenish brownish discharge after mating, it was a pyo I'm afraid.

Hiya tooolz, im afraid it may be a pyo also. Was the greeny brown discharge "creamy" or sort of "mucusy" as one of my bitched had that when she lost her litter at 7 weeks.

It was like dull pale green custard.
I dont suppose you have a microscope to hand do you even one of those pregnancy prediction type will do?
If so look at a sample and see if you can see lots of similair round cells, completely feature-less just round, these are white cells and will be in great abundance. That's what puss is mainly, white cells so look if you can.
Puss will also be creamy and not snot-like at all.
I do hope it is all ok but if it's not good news make sure you treat your bitch for beta- haemolytic streptococcus (if they don't spay) as it invariably always is in boxers. Vets have always told me that's not factual but upon swabbing and culture it always turns out to be so.

Just out of interest what age if any do you normally spay your boxers?  I am thinking about having mine done this year. 

I have only 1 out of 3 spayed and she was about 3 1/2 and carrying an unwanted litter.

Mines is 2 1/2 years old and now mentally mature. I won't be mating her she is just a pet and does have quite bloody seasons so I thought with my Pyo phobia also it was getting near the time to have her spayed.

I hope it isn't Pyo. One of my constant fears since I nearly lost a bitch a couple of years ago with it.

Just to be a bit optimistic for you, my freind recently had a browny green discharge with one of her bitches and after a week or so it was fine again. 5 puppies all fine.

Was you bitch "dull" because mine doesnt seem off colour - she was bright as a button yesterday at the farm.

Yes they go off colour a bit and do tend to go downhill quick quickly I think if it is a closed pyo.

When I look back I sometimes think could or should I have noticed earlier.  She was a bit quiet but had also just been mated, she was being a little sick and when I lifted her in and out of her box ( she was on the 2nd bunk of boxes) she would give a little grunt.. Again all pregnancy symptoms also.

One day I lifted her out and she let out a yelp and I thought I had caught her or pinched her but she must have been tender.  About a week later she was repeatedly sick , then the water drinking started so I took her straight to the vet.  She was spayed immediately but was a sick girl.

I took one of my other bitches to the vets at the weekend just as a precaution as she was due in season 4 weeks ago, she has been a little quieter than normal and had been sick a couple of times the 2 days before. No discharge etc but I have become a little cautious after my first Pyo instance. She was given a good check over and scanned and all looked normal but we have her on anticiotics just as a precaution.

It is so true it is a hard one to detect. Worse when closed though which is what I previously had.

My bitch continued with a bloody discharge until day 31 after her season started, she was mated on day 19 but the stud was very half hearted even though she had been at the studs since day 14 (previously mated on days 15 to 17 when she had a litter).  Had her at the Vets who like me just wanted things watched as didn't want to give AB's for a possibly pregnant bitch.  She is fine now, but looks like no pups this time.  the stud had another bitch visit him a few days later and was hot to trot for her, so something seems to have been off with this season.  I may decide next season to give prophylactic AB's before mating, which I have never done before.

Green in any discharge is usually infection (except after whelping when it is the colour from the placental sites), so I think a safe AB may be the Vets choice..

I have had something similar on a couple of occasions.One continued to whelp ok and another missed. I had them checked out at Vets and a course of antibiotics as a precaution but neither were ill or out of sorts in any way. The usual discharge when they are in whelp is more of a "clear egg white "  but caution is the best policy.

gollie my swd was mated on day 15 and 16 of her season first mating bye day 20 a discharge was but on abc tablet for two week then and week later it came back again so she was abc all the time will she was in whelp untill 3 weeks after the puppies were born 5 healthy ones that was 2 3/4 years ago,the second time she was mated she was ok.

Forgot to say a blood test or scan will show it up quickly.   Fingers crossed like a pretzel.

Thought I'd update you all.

When I took my girl to be mated, I had discussed scanning with the stud's owner. She said she never bothered with scanning because she always knew if a bich of hers was pregnant or not. She told me that more often than not you could tell by the discharge.

Now I remembered this yesterday afternoon so rang her and told her the story that you all know. She said if I had desribed it right that in her experience she would be pleased to see this as it is a good indication of the bitch being pregnant. Even so early in the term.

Not to be satisfied with just one opinion I rang my showing/breeding nentor who owns the sire of Noe. She said the same thing.

I am now satisfied that this MAY be a good thing seen as though Noe is now way under the weather at all. I rang the vets and told the above to the nurse and decided to cancel the apointment. She agreed but we are keeping a close eye on her to see if anything changes. I do not want her at the vets unless she really has too - and do not want to punp any drugs into here unless I have to.

Glad you are booked in at the vets. A bitch of mine had some really nasty looking green discharge at 7 weeks in whelp. I feared the worst and expected to lose all the pups. The vet scanned her and it showed that all the pups still had heart beats so she was just monitored and given some antiobiotics. Turns out it was vaginitis and a load of nasty green goo came out when she whelped 7 perfect, healthy pups. It doesn't necessarily mean the worst so try not to worry too much until your vet has given her the once over. Good luck.

Noe is still bright as a button in case anyone was still worrying about the pyo.
