Hi all bichon frise or white dog owners!!
i'm just wondering if anyone has used angels' eyes or another tear stain remover and if they had any success or if anyone has any tips on how to reduce or make them disappear!!does wiping them every day help?

Also, its a bit confusing as the main ingredient for angel's eyes is 100% Pure Beef Liver, tylosin as tartrate.
Guaranteed Analysis: crude protein min. 67.6% crude fat min. 10.6 crude fibre min. 0.1% moisture min. 6.0% ash max. 4.8%

this confuses me as i thought bichons were intolerant to beef!!but then people who sell it all use it on bichons with success and there are reviews saying its good.

Can anyone help with any tips and whether this product is safe for bichons and if its any good?

ive also seen angels glow which has slightly different ingredients but look bvery similar and use the same amounts?

I have used Angel eyes on my Bichon with great success. I only use when the red staining comes (yeast infection) My friend has 4 bichons and uses it, again with great success. I will be getting some more as the windy weather has made his eyes run and stained a little.

ok thanks. do you not use it all the time then cos the advert suggests tht if you stop using it the tear stains reappear?so imagine the beef content is ok if people are using it on their bochons?

I don't - I just use as directed for the full course then I really should use just once a week but !!!!!!!!  But its up to you. In between see that the eyes are clean and dry.

I used to use angels glow for Geordi when I was showing him, it works a treat. It may contain beef but you give such a tiny amount it didn't adversely affect him at all. I gave half a teaspoon in his food every other day. It also reduces stains around the mouth. I don't need to use it with my current show-off Oscar as he doesn't get any eye staining at all. It really varies dog to dog with their tear ducts. Oscar has none but his litter sister does.

Before using angels glow I used to use a white paste around eyes that I got from the bichon club which absorbed the excess tearing, then brushed out which was quite good but not as good

My friend shows bichons and she goes by the prevention of staining rather than trying to remove it.  Cant exactly remember what it is she uses (but I can find out) but its a kind of white paste that she puts on and removes daily so that any staining that occurs doesnt get to stain the coat as it is on top of the paste. Hope that makes sense.  I know people have asked her in the past how she keeps their eyes clean and when she tells them they say they cant be bothered to do that every day but as she says it only takes bout 5 minutes a day and if people want clean eyes on their dogs they have to put a bit of work into it.

thanks for that.  have you ever tried angels eyes or was angels glow the first one you used?  once the tear staining has disappeared do you just keep using it but drop down the dosage cos it suggests if you stop then the staining will come back?

Keep using but drop the dosage. Also remember that young pups get more staining than older dogs during teething.

No I've never used angel eyes, although I've heard good things about it! As previously mentioned youngsters will often have more staining, mine had terrible trouble when they were teething!

Sorry to bump this thread but just wanted to warn you about the risks of buying angels eyes or glow.

Defra clamped down on it a couple of months ago. Apparently neither firm ever applied for a UK marketing authority so it is illegal in the UK.

Shamefully the Americans are telling punters here in the uk that it is legal for them to sell it into the uk. They omit to mention that it is illegal for you to buy it though. If customs see it coming in they will pull it and not refund you. I do not know whether the Americans will refund you, the fact that they are buck passing by saying that the UK suppliers are at fault for not applying for the marketing authority concerns me- only the makers can apply!!!

Thus far it seems to be working for us and the prices are on par with the Angels Eyes that we used to use.

Has any one else tried it yet?

I used to use angels glow and have gone to my vet who is happy to prescribe tylosyn for me to use for the same treatment and there is also an eye drop available. So all is not lost if tylosyn worked for you go to your vets they are quite happy and it is legal to get it from your vet.
