has anyone fed this ? just wondering on peoples opinons, not on the ingredients but how their dogs did on it.  I have tried everything with Alf but cant seem to get the weight off him, he is only 3 so dont really want to put him on a "diet" food and I dont want to compromise his energy levels as we are training for a 13 mile run.  He doesnt have a lot to lose, only 3kg, he just needs his waist back ;-)

Why not just feed less of his normal food but bulk it out with low calorie veggies so he feels full?

I tried that but it didnt work, it could have been because he was on raw food and it was that I mixed the veggies with, and it was the raw food that was putting weight on him.  I dont think veggies will give him the energy he needs either though.

I have always fed burns mixed with meat but not the high oats - either the chicken and brown rice or lamb and brown rice. I know Burns has come up on here before and a lot of people said their dogs lost weight when they changed diet and started feeding Burns. Maybe changing to Burns but not the high oats will help to shave off that bit of weight without compromising his energy levels :-)

I fed it to my other one as a pup and he lost so much weight it was awful, I had to take him off it.  Think I will call burns on monday and get their opinion, it might be worth doing the high oats for a few weeks then moving onto the original burns.

I used to use that with my dog and alternate it with the other varieties.  She really liked it and it was one of her favourite flavours and she looked ok on it.  I'v'e recently changed to salters and noticed a change for the better in her looks, coat, attitude etc.  She hasn't put weight on with it either.
ali - with a staffy not a chow, but very cheeky!

Hamish put on a fair bit of weight when I started feeding raw, it seemed to creep on without me noticing! I did just cut back on portion size and the weight gradually came off, he didn't seem particularly hungry either. Over a period of about 4-5 months he lost around 5 kgs. As with any weight loss, canine or human, I think a gradual loss is better, and I found the smaller portions worked with him.

He wasnt getting enough with the raw, I was having to feed him more veggies than meat and he still wasnt losing weight.

I put my oldest boy on High Oats a year ago in an attempt to shed some weight and as far as I could see, it did nothing!! That's the honest truth! I ended up putting him on a Mature diet made by another compnay which shed the weight great but obviously that wouldn't apply to yours as he's only three years!

Well I went out and bought him a 7.5kg bag of high oats which should last him a few weeks and I will see what difference it makes - fingers crossed !!
