Hi,

Has anybody had any experience of a dog having fits after been changed over to a Raw diet, particulary having a fit after having a recreational bone? All the Raw meat given had been frozen not given fresh. Mostly the frozen mince blocks from AMP and a few recreational bones.

I'm only making a connection as I know someone who is this dogs grandsire also sired another dog who actually has fits often and from a young age and it seems that having bones triggers a fit (well more of them). So these two dogs are from the same lines, one a son and one a grandson.

This is an almost 7 year old dog who has never had a fit before and this was when he was in a relaxed state 3.00am and was sleeping.

Any experiences would be most helpful.

I had to stop giving my first SBT (who suffered from epilepsy) pigs ears as the intense chewing seemed to trigger fits in her.  I wasn't sure if it was a coincidence or not, but after it happened three times, I presumed not!
I would ask your vet especially as your dog hasn't had fits before.
BTW, I personally wouldn't give your dog frozen meat (defrost first) as this could cause bloat.

Opps, I do defrost it! lol What I meant was I don't buy fresh meat and give it to them I freeze it first or normally buy the AMP meats already frozen.

Thanks for the info though, so the intense chewing of the bone he had on Saturday afternoon could have triggered a fit. Just come back from the Vet and had some bloods taken to be tested, don't really like my Vet they never really explain things. Don't feel that comfortable with them and always feel like a number, I like a more personal service!
