Hi I have a one and a half year old weimaraner, she is a feminine built dog but recently she has not been putting weight on and it is getting to the stage where she looks ill. She has been checked out at the vets and she has been wormed, she has always had a dodgy tummy and runny poohs but I put her on supa dog sensitive and it hardened her poohs up. She eats two big bowls of it morning and night but still won't put the weight on, any suggestions as to what food I could change her to to try and get weight on her.

When did she start losing weight? was it before you changed her food or after? If after, I'd be looking for a food which is similar to Supadog sensitive but with similar protein and fat levels to the food she was on when she was at a good weight - if that makes any sense??
Failing that you could try some minced lamb mixed in - as it's already in her food and hasn't upset her tum

or some tripe added to her food - but go carefully as you are trying to avoid 'dire rear' which won't help matters at all

Hi,
a dog i bred was having very similar problems. he lost so much body his owners were embarrassed to walk him cos he looked so underfed. He was then changed onto Nutro sensitive and he has piled it back on. When i last saw him he looked lovely and his coat looked much better too. Not sure of the protein in comparison to what you are using but may be worth some investigation. Also tripe works wonders and i am yet to meet a dog who doesn't love it.

Hi thank you for the responses, she put weight on when she first started eating Supa Sensitive but has since then lost it. I will try the Nurto sensitive as she seems to have become 'immune' to the supa sensitive (if dogs can become immune to a dog food). I don't know.

my skinny boy only started to put on weight when I put him on BARF
1.5lb this week total 5.5lb - slowly but surely im getting there !!
Hi I would really love to put them both on barf diet but haven't got a clue how to get started, how much to give them, what to give them, are there any good websites that will explain everything in simple form for thickos like me.

Any of the books by Ian Billinghurst are a good starter for ten; some will say that things have moved on a bit since then but they are a good basic starting point. Would also suggest that you enrol in the BritBarf Yahoo group - there is a lot of knowledge on there.

Makes interesting reading just browsing the posts.
Good luck
Jan
Thanks I will have a look on the website, but has anyone had any dealings with Wainwrights complete food, as somebody at the school gates said their weim did brilliantly on that food, any thoughts appreciated.

I feed supadog sensitive (lamb & rice), it suits my GSD better than many foods which I tried. I also found that he put weight on initially, but then slowed off. I now feed raw in the morning & the dried at night. I feed 3 chicken wings, breast of lamb & an occasional bone. Breast of lamb is really good at putting on weight.

Bear in mind that adolescent Weims can often look as though they have escaped from an RSPCA poster.
If the vet has tested her for EPI etc and she has the all clear you may have to put up with it until she turns 2 - 3; as long as her energy levels are ok, relax

Yes, thinking about it, Zak was turned 3 when he filled out, he also used to look like he had escaped from the RSPCA!

He was then changed onto Nutro sensitive and he has piled it back onI found with Nutro, that it made my spaniels coat go very thin, and her skin went scalley. All red and itchy, and she had bald spots.
Nutro was also part of the Recall, so I have been scared of it since.
When Joy lost all kinds of weight, we had switched her food, and added suppliments. She also got a higher calorie food, and was mixed with part Puppy food.
A good food I found, has been Canidae.
