I am looking for a German Shepherd puppy. I would like a bitch, straight back with a black face and saddle and preferably one that is going to be big and have brains. We have always had a German Shepherd, so are used to the breed we have no small children, are at home all day and have loads of room and a big garden. Could anyone out  there help please

                         thankyou

To get a responsibly bred pup whose parents ahve been hip sopcred adn sire Haemophilia tested you shoudl contact one fo the numerous breed clubs for a breeder/puppy list.

thankyou, yes I would always do that and I know although there are many very good breeders there are more bad ones. It is just that I need information as to who breeds the type I am looking for

how old would you want the puppy to be? I know there are loads of young German Shepherds in rescue - just thought it might be another option.

Well that might be difficult you will be looking for a breeder who breeds against the breed standard, bitches should be no more than 24" at the withers

>and have brains

As for the dogs ability to work most of the real working bred GSDs in the UK now have lots if not all german/continental  bloodlines(by working I mean bred to work as opposed to dogs gifted to the police etc) so would not fit the physical requirement you quote, as they apply to dogs from pure English breeding & unfortunately few of the breeders of this type of dog do the health tests that are needed

You need to ensure that all the dogs in the dogs pedigree have been hip scored-not just the parents-hip scoring has been around long enough now for all the dogs in a dogs pedigree to have been hip scored. All the males in the pedigree should also have been haemophillia tested. There are BVA/KC health schemes that cover these tests

As you have had GSDs before could you go back to one of there breeders for another puppy ?

Hi,
I would like a young puppy and I do know the type I want is hard to find but I will wait for the right dog and travel anywhere in UK if I have to

My Dennis came from Pauline at Jonven in Manchester and unfortunatly she is not breeding now but she is helping me look for one as she knows what I am looking for but at the moment there isnt much out there

Isn't she ? Funny her website says otherwise !Also her dogs are all German breeding so the bitches will not be oversized at all

It was this statement "unfortunatly she is not breeding now"which would indicate she had stopped breeding

I would always opt for waiting for a puppy from a breeder who the OP has had a dog that they liked rather than go elsewhere better to wait than get a puppy from an unknown breeder

You are right  the best thing is to get a pup from where i got my last one, I only spoke to her a few days ago and she wont be having puppies in the near future so its not an option thats why I was hoping someone could help me find one similar

Couldn't agree more. Was simply pointing out that all the puppies from that litter were sold and the breeder wasn't forced to be having another litter.:-)

It is so nice to chat to people who are experts on german shepherds, mine are simply pets and I am trying to buy the type I like but knowing what to ask for is fazing me a little. My Dennis was very tall and very stocky with a big head, he was black and gold, short coat he had a dark black face and saddle. His back was almost straight and I know he had a lot of German in his pedigree. Dad Asoka Klaus, mum Lula Belle of Jonven, grand parents crankwood dark secret, Asoka civet, Jamshar zebedee and cheekychica. GG parents carlos of santog of kentoo, skelton sieglinde, zambo of starhope, aasoka lamishka , bedwins barry, jansharrazzle dazzle, graf at peterwell, longvale elkie. GGG parents maik vom holtkampersee, cito vom konigsbruch, janshar islandmist ETC. I know that all means something to you experts, could you tell me anything more with that info please
