Well today we made a bit of a boob - thought we had another sack of dog food but nope the little furries had eaten it all.
Quick rush to Costco to get more Autarky only to find they didn't have any!!!!  Have they stopped selling it or is it just my local depot that was out of stock (Leeds)?
The only Tesco round here doesn't stock it and there are no feed merchants I knw of nearby that sell it so had to get Costco's own food - Kirkland Signature.
Will this be okay for a few days as a stop-gap until I can get some of their usual food:
Chicken, chicken meat meal, brown rice, chicken fat, egg, potatoes, fish meal, flaxseed, yeast (only a tiny amount) carrots, peas, kelp, apples....then a range of minerals etc etc
Protein 26%, fat 16%

Any thoughts (other than to keep a check on food levels!!)

Doesn't sound too bad but would Love to know what the actual meat levels are.

About Autarky, we queried our wholesaler the other day why they didn't stock the Autarky CAT food. I've heard a lot of good about it with a lot of breeders switching from Royal Canin to Autarky for their cats, so wanted to try it. They said the manufacturers will only sell a minimum of 78 bags (i.e. 78 bags of dog food, any mixture of types, or 78 bags of cat food -they don't mix dog and cat) to any reseller, and that's why they didn't stock the cat food -they'd never sell 78 bags of one brand in a decent amount of time. Could well be that's the problem with getting the dog food, if everyone has to buy a minimum of 78 bags a lot of shops will find it's too much.

Whenever we run out of our proper dog food (we buy everything wholesale so can't just go out and buy a single bag, we get all cat food, cat litter and dog food in one go) we nip to Morrisons and buy a sack of Wagg. Never had a problem using any cheap food as a stop gap. My dogs don't have easily upset stomachs and no dog food is going to do any damage if fed for just a while, whatever it is.

Regarding the Kirkland, be careful. Last november we ran out of Autarky, same as you we got it from Costco, they didnt have any, so we decided to give the Kirkland a try. What a big mistake that was, my eldest gsd (5yrs) had a very nasty allergic reaction to something in it, to the point he lost a lot of his coat, its only just starting to come back now. He has never had any any reaction to anything in the past. Obviously like humans all dogs are different, but i would rather order the Autarky from their own website and pay the bit extra, until you decide on what you are going to do regarding his food in the future.

I think the two first ingredients come to about 40%.  I have no idea if that's good or bad - we got a bag as there didn't seem to be loads of weird ingredients in it.

Have Costco stopped selling it as nobody there knew a thing (need rolleyes)?
Getting onto the maufacturers today to see if there is anywhere else locally I can get it.  I get 2 bags at a time as I can't store anymore so 70 odd might be pushing it a tad LOL!!!

No problems overnight as if the old girl reacts to something we usually find out pretty sharpish!!

Sorry, but going off subject for a moment. Can I ask from the people who feed Autarky, what they think of it. I feed James Wellbeloved and am very happy and would say I wouldn't ever change. However, there is every likelihood that we will be moving to France next year and James Wellbeloved do not have stockists there. I saw Autarky at the warehouse that I go to and was impressed by the similarity to JW. However, I have heard that it can cause pinking of the fur in pale Goldens so would be grateful for peoples opinions. Have seen on the search menu that someone had problems with temperament, but did wonder if this was the food or hormones. Any opinions gratefully accepted.

I don't know if it's just goldens that are affected by pinking but I have a white dog (boxer) and he has stayed white.
Both my dogs look well on it and stools are firm and easy to pick up.  They don't seem to eat loads of it and it's been the only food my 14 year old collie x has been able to eat for ages without being poorly. 
I saw no changes in temperament but what suits some dogs doesn't suit others. 
It's not expensive so it may be worth getting a bag for a trial run if you can't get JW in France (lucky you for moving there!)

Thanks for that. Where I buy my food it is less than half the price of JW, however I still wouldn't change if I didn't have to but I had thought that I would try a bag as I need to get them used to something else before we move.

I like Kirklands ingredients and P/F Levels much better than Autarky's. I know a lot of people have success with it in the US,as it is at a great price for very decent ingredients.

Autarky adult:

Maize, chicken meat meal, rice, chicken fat, green vegetables, carrots, whole linseed, prairie meal, yeast, herbs, spices, seaweed, yucca extract, with EC permitted antioxidants: mixed tocopherols, vitamin C and rosemary extract.

Well still ok (furiously touching wood LOL) on the new food.  The increased fat levels should, fingers crossed, help anorexic Tammy put on a few pounds so that can only be a bonus.  She has been full of energy but that may be a coincedence with the lovely sunny, but cold, weather.
If all stays okay I may be converted

In case anybody is interested it worked out at £15 inc VAT (£12.79 ex VAT) for 18kg.  Bargain IMO.

Have they a website, wouldn't' mind investigating as the protein levels are more in line with what I prefer compared to the Autarky.

I can't find one and a lot of the sites are from the US or Canada as I guess Costco is an American company.
I can always type out the whole label for you when I get home later if that's any good?
Maybe somebody else will find a website - although as it is Costco own brand it may be tricky.

They also did lamb and rice, as well as the chicken and rice I bought and I think there may have been another variant - possibly puppy.

Yes I could only find US sites and commercial companies selling it.

I know someone who owns/shows/breeds goldens that feeds autarky and none of their dogs are pink. Most are mid-gold but they have a few creams.
