This is a longshot I know. But a neighbour found two sweet male jack russells wandering around the lane near our house. There was no sign of anyone in the area who could have been walking them. Although there's a lot of poaching in our area, these dogs weren't muddy or looking rough if you see what I mean. Poacher's dogs tend to look like that. I don't know an awful lot about the breed, but they look very young to me. Neither had a collar on, so I suspect neither will be microchipped, although we can't find anyone 'open' to do that. We tried to contact local rescue centres, the police, even the local dog warden .. god help us .. but nobody seems to work at the weekend or they have answering services switched on. I thought we were supposed to be a nation of animal lovers. The RSPCA weren't interested and will only take them if they're injured. The police said they could no longer hang onto dogs because of health and safety would you believe.
I have a 13 year old retriever who is not well at the moment and certainly not capable of dealing with a couple of boisterous JRs. However, we do have a little run outside with sleeping quarters attached, which was used to house guinea fowl a while back. So we've made them a cosy bed in the sheltered non open area and fed and watered them. They were ravenous poor things. I'm not altogether happy about leaving them outside, even though we've done our best to make them comfortable. We intend covering the run with some extra protection tonight to keep them as warm as we can. They've been barking and whining non stop, which I guess means that nobody will get to sleep tonight. It's so frustrating, there's nobody to help. They might well be some frantic owners out there for all I know, although they may have been dumped. Anyhow, we'll do the best we can until Monday, but if anyone out there can offer any advice or can give me a contact number for a Jack Russell rescue centre in the Taunton'ish area. Thanks very much to you all.

How far are you away from the op Sam????
