Peta is an amazing group that care deeply about animal welfare.I wouldn't buy iams.Have a look at the peta website.apparently they are not good with caring about animal welfare in animal testing.

PETA also want no animals kept as pets........

Lucylu.......peta are completley ott.
They are a dangerous organisation.
Karen

PETA are totally against the keeping of all animals as pets.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
Animal abuse is wrong and they have done much to help eleviate the suffering of animals, regardless of wether they disagree with people keeping pets. They are strongly into vegetarianism also and i eat meat, but i dont support animal cruelty and if what they say about iams is true then we should boycot it until iams change their ways. Also, some people shouldn't keep pets.

If it were up to PETA YOU wouldnt ever need dog food as they want NO animals at all.
They are fools, who would let dogs out of a safe cage at a show in the hope it got run over.

Look at the video by Roger Moore about Foie Gras or about dog and cat fur farming in china ect, ect,,,,That's got to be fantastic that they are trying to help these animals.I care about animals being badely treated, does that make my opinions ott?

There is a whole difference between those who care about animal Welfare and Animal Rights organisations.
PETA want to see all domestic animals phased out of existence.
I suggest you look here:

Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.
>does that make my opinions ott?
Yes, if it means you support an organisation that carry out terrorist acts against innocent people...scientists who are working on cures for Cancer, AIDS and the like.
I suggest you actually read some of the stuff out there that tells the REAL story of PETA and don't just believe their own hype.

I think a huge amount of that is tabloidish paranoia,of cause we should look closely at what we are supporting when we put our name to something.Generally though,i think that it's still more a case of blanket paranoia when it comes to animal rights in this country.

Sorry, can you explain what you mean by 'tabloidish.....blanket paranoia'?

Not if you don't want to, I suppose. I was just asking for clarification of your post because I didn't understand it and didn't want to reply until I knew better what I was replying to. But fine if you don't want to. We'll just leave it there, shall we?

I didn't mean to be rude.My original post was about Iams and their treatment of animals according to Peta.Peta has brought this to my attention and wether or not i support Peta,i do not support animal abuse.

Peta are evil IMHO they steal/release show dogs in dangerous situations, they broke into a friend of mine's motorhome at a show & dumped her dogs on a freeway from the back of their van, resulting in their deaths, they are to appear in court over this, but have threatened my friend with taking the remaining dogs & doing the same if she doesn't drop the charges. They take dogs from people & kill them, they were in court & found guilty for this
They as others have said think all animals should be living wild & no animal kept as a pet, for show or for work, this is why they steal the showdogs & dump them of open the crates at shows so that the dogs "escape"
As for Iams, Peta had said nothing for the 40 years before Proctor & Gamble bought Paul Iams' company when he retired, the alleged animal testing was not done by Iams, but by researchers who received a grant from Iams. They have done some awful things to workers of P&G(not that I support their animal experiments)& their leader is totally obsessed with P&G

From my understanding, this is all old hat........the most controversial animal experimentation associated with Iams was years ago.
The alleged invasive testing occurred while Iams was owned by Clay Mathile and the most controversial studies were done by Iams researcher Dan Carey, DVM, between 1987 and 1995.
P & G acquired Iams in 1999. P & G blew the whistle and encouraged the publication of the research, which was not described in veterinary journals until after P & G acquired Iams.
P & G are said to have developed a non-invasive alterative for information about feeding.
As for PETA, MM sums it up - evil...
PETA are a group of extremist who don't really give a rats a**e about animals in reality. if they did, they wouldn't harm animals int heir propaganda making films, and other situation. They have been caught red handed 'setting up' situations such as horses being killed in abatoirs. What they were paying people to do to those poor animals didn't usually happen, it was all in the name of publicity.
Imagine if they came and let your dog out int he street to get run over because they don't think you shoudl keep it as a pet? Would you still support them then?
I agree with the majority here, as a teenager I used to agree with Peta until I grew up and found out what they REALLY stood for!!
They don't care about animals they are extremists!
> Peta is an amazing group
amazing is certainly the word...but i wouldn;t intend it in a positive sense. It's
amazing some of the things they have done in the name of animal rights that are incredibly cruel. it's
amazing that they seem to thing that destroying an ecosystem (the mink thing) is good for animal rights
lucy i agree with you about animal rights being important, i agree that there is no reason or need for such treatment to occur.however i also agree that palastinians are often treated poorly in israel- doesn;t mean i agree with suicide bombing and comparitively i certainly don;t agree with the murder of innocent animals in the name of "the end justifying the means" by these totally insane people.
plenty of
actual animal rights organisations out there to support
you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here

It's easy to confuse animal 'rights' with animal 'welfare'.

http://www.uncaged.co.uk/iams.htmalot of what is on this is over the top too, and as for animal rights activists they dont care about animals see all those boars they keep letting out, and what about the baby polar bear they wanted PTS? i expect most of them are just university lay abouts with nothing better to do and want to brag "hey look at what ive done with my life,i kicked the s**t out of some innocent guys that were unable to protect themselves cus i dont agree with line fishing"
i love border terriers
If it ain't broke, don't fix it
and what about that old ladys body they dug up? their the ones that are the sickos imo
i love border terriers
I'm a bit sceptical about the "iams truth" thing as i suppose they would say anything to clear their names. How do we know Iams is telling the truth?? Looks more like damage control.
I wont feed it due to their reputation and the ingredients used in their food.If a company has a sullied name then i'll stay away..

A tactless person says what everyone else is thinking

I wonder why PETA did nothing until their Bete Noire P&G bought IAMS ?????

Uncaged is strongly linked to PETA.

From my understanding, this all started from findings which had been buried in scientific papers and from the reports I've read, Carey has never denied it, tried to justify it thou. I don't know if PETA had a '
thing 'about P & G at the time it acquired IAM's.
I too am not convinced about their '
truth policies', and their '
fact' statements sound too good to be true IMO. A company of animal lovers??? I don't think so.....I get the feeling they are calling themselves animal lovers because they are doing all this work to bring the very best to pet owners, improving their pet's life. Nice marketing ploy. There will be, in some form or another, testing on animals. Whether the animals are well cared for and all their emotional, physical and mental needs met is very much subjective.
They are a pharmaceutical company; they market a science diet, nothing more, nothing less. And some dog do very well on it.
On the plus side, having PETA crawling all over them might encourage them to be squeaky clean going forward.
> don't know if PETA had a 'thing 'about P & G at the time it acquired IAM's.
PETA in the guise of Uncaged has been campaiging against P&G since 1996 when P&G acquired IAMS in 1999 IAMS was added to the list of P&G companies that PETA are against
IAMS was founded by Paul IAMS in 1946 & sold the company to his partner in 1982 & it was sold to P&G in 1999.
Paul set up an institute dedicated to the emotional and physical needs of companion animals in 1987, he died in 2004
Odd that the research was done before P&G bought the company & yet PETA did nothing until IAMS was acquired by P&G

Not really if PETA didn't know about it, and if they were crawling all over P & G anyhow, that interest was most likely extended to subsidiaries, partnerships etc, etc. I believe it was P & G that were behind the publication thou.
> university lay abouts with nothing better to do
as a 'university layabout'- bit harsh! we're busy people!
you are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars, you have a right to be here
maybe you are busy but theres plenty of people that go or have finished uni that arent, my step daughter goes to uni and she spends most of her time partying with her mates
i love border terriers

well i do object to the stereotype- first years for partying and the rest is work. my team at work is completely made up of uni/college students who all work at least 18 hrs a week (quite a lot for pt)- i personally average 25-30 hrs. i'm in the lib from 10 am each day till i leave for work at half four- work till 11 pm then home. plus readings plus classes. i've approximately 12-15 thousand words to write in the next month of a suitable accademic level to gain my honors. it's not the easy life people think.
