My dog T-Bone I have no idea what she is doing before x-mas she had an ulcer on the eye got drops cleared it up and then again she is squinting so got more drops and it was cleared up again she's fine- now yesterdday she is squinting again so again Iam doing the drops- vet says if doesn't clear up in about 3-4 days to come in. Now I have no idea what she is poking her eye on- she likes to rub herself along furntire into tree's like a cat does (maybe she was a cat in her last life)- we were thinking the shrub outside but I dunno- do you think there maybe another cause for her eye to keep acting up? This happened last year but it was her right eye and only happened once, now its her left eye and this is going onto the 3rd time. Iam totally puzzled- she gets an ulcer do drops goes away but then comes back again- confused

So sorry to read about your dog.  I had a dog with this problem. First ulcers on both eyes at once and then on her left eye only.  This went on for some time clearing up with drops but happening again soon after the drops were stopped.  On the advice of a friend I had her tested for hypothyroidism as this is a symptom of this.  She proved to be hypo-t but unfortunately within a few months her cornea ruptured and she lost the eye.

I am not saying that this is your problem but might be an idea to have a full panel done just to rule this out.  Hope her eye is soon better

Sue.

Hi, my friends dog was sent for surgery for this recently and when he was under the anasthetic (sp) they discovered that his retina was detached rather than an ulcer.  He is fine now but doesn't have much, if any sight left in the eye.
ali - with a staffy not a chow, but very cheeky!

If it happens again or doesn't clear up I will have to check into that- we did have the dye put on her eye and under black light is how she seen the ulcer- so I dunno but will keep that in mind- She is my hubby's favorite dog too :-( Of course we love all our dogs but she is his baby.

Thank you :-)

Sometime the ulcers go deep, and the drops just aren't able to get to it and it eventually recurs. This happened to my old mongrel and she went in to have the ulcer debrided, and then treated with drops. It worked a treat and her eye has been beautifully clear and wide open for 18months now.

It looked terrible for a few weeks afterwards, it went white, and she couldn't see anything. That worried me a bit, but eventually it healed fine.

Went back to the vet and we can have her eye scraped but chose to do the drops a lil longer since the ulcer is not as big as before- now we are doing the drops 6 times a day instead of 3-4 times. She doesn't seem to be squinting as much and we go back for a recheck in another couple of weeks- so am hoping this works...
