But he doesn't learn and gets such basic things wrong.  Most of that could be avoided by simply looking at a dog encyclopedia or the kennel club illustrated breeds standard book.

Rach85  please dont tell me you think pedigrees new founf interest in the rehoming of dogs and the non pedigree features in the US are anything to do with the dogs. It is just  market change. Most people in dog showing don't use their products so they are not getting enough return for their investment into the dog show world. They are trying a different tactic.

Surely at least attempting to re home dogs or advertising the re homing is better then advertising dog shows? Every little helps in regards to these dogs getting homes, everyone already knows about all and any dog shows coming up so advertisement on telly isnt needed, rehoming for dogs, advertisement is needed so they are doing a good thing in my eyes.

Why not though if that is what the person thinks. We alla re entitled to our opinions.   I get stuck with some charity organisations.  For example Labradors. We have thousands in rescue but people keep breeding them.  The better rescues get and the mroe charities doesn't seem to reduce the dogs going into rescue regardless how quick they turn them around.

I see what you saying Blue I honestly do! And of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it sounded very harsh, almost like the person resented Pedigree trying to rehome dogs! Be it for good or bad, the RSPCA arent exactly the greatest company in the world bt they do help and if the pedigree adverts help a little bit, then good on them for doing it

And for the record I wasnt saying about people buying dogs, just on the advertisement bit! lol

And when is Jonathan Ross on Crufts by the way? Seems very odd he is on there!! lol

Very few people seem to realise there is more than the one dog show.  As for where to buy a pup we all know few people know where to get one, or if they do choose to, which is why there are so many bad breeders.

Rach85 - of course I am not saying it is bad to highlight the plight of dogs in rescue but simply pointing out that Pedigree - for many many years the main sponsor of our major dog shows - has now shifted it's focus away from the showing world here in the Uk (although it remains highly active overseas) - this co-incides with a similar shift in emphasis by the Cruft committee away from the original 'raison d'etre ' of the show to one that includes a huge range of more instantly 'entertaining' doggy activities....to my mind a 'dumbing down ' of the show....and a reinforcement of the view that showing is simply not enough on it's own.

Would you get this kind of triviality in any other major competition - I think not.

Re Pedigree 'rebranding', out of interest I had a read of their new complete box.  Lots of lovely pictures of vegetables and meat, etc, lots of info about how the different foods are good for the dog - so far so good.  But where was the ingredients list?  took me a few minutes to find it and had a job reading it even with my reading glasses.  Ingredients seem to be identical to those on the old box and I can't help thinking that to hide it and make the print so small really doesn't convince me that they are proud of the information   or is it that their demographic aren't expected to care about little things like that?

Surely, if they were really interested in the welfare of rescue dogs they would do more to publicise the folly of getting a dog on a whim and discarding it like an old handbag when it's no longer a novelty

Re dumbing down of dog showing, maybe that is one reason that pedigree dogs are being ignored for 'designer' mongrels?  breeding of purebred dogs is being sidelined in the most well known dog show, therefore, how important is it really to the breeding of dogs?

I must admit aside from the group and BIS judging I have little interest in the TV coverage, largely down to much of Crufts (whether there in the flesh or watching at home) becoming more of a circus event than about quality pedigree breeding and working stock.  IMO the whitterings on of the cringeworthy Mr Fogle only adds further to the demise of the world's greatest dog show.  Better that it had never been televised than to make a mockery of serious breeders, exhibitors, triallers, obedience specialists etc.

Last year I had trouble getting near the breed ring with my dog prior to judging, most of the people in my way around the ring were really annoyed that I needed to make them move, they were even more annoyed that they had to move for my dog!!  Why on earth would people like that attend a DOG SHOW?  if it wasn't for the TV coverage and marginalisation of the breed judging they'd have known to expect a lot of dogs at the ringside (eyes rolling out my head here)    I also overheard someone say "Crufts is brilliant!  pity it's spoiled by there being so many dogs everywhere!"  words failed me at that point

And half the shuttle buses were coaches that wouldn't allow dogs on - the crowd was getting quite irate about all the dogless people that could therefore jump the queues!!

Anyone noticed how all the dogs on the program sit happily with Claire and Matt but are always pulling to get away from Ben Fogle (Do you think they are trying to tell him something!)

carried on from the coverage, and they were all sitting with the life guard dog(cant remember the breed!!) and Matt left the room, with that the dog pulled Ben to get to his owner!"!!!!!

Not on the island. I think Inca had a litter some time after he got back; there was a woman with a collie on the island that had a litter there.
