hi all asking your advice for my friend sasha she has just had it confirmed her dog is expecting so i have been passing on info from what i have learnt here (she dosnt have a computer herself) she was just going to leave her dog to it but when i mentioned what can go wrong and evrything she decided it would be best to be prepared so i was wondering  if you could tell me the best place to buy whelping kits and any onther things she may need in the event her dog or pup needs help ie to help get them breathing ect thank you

well i looked on ebay and there were 2 different ones one was £26 the other £46 and i wasnt really sure of the best one for her there must be others out there

what on earth is a "whelping kit"??? surely you just gather together all the bits & bobs yourself....thats what I have alwasy done and I keep them together to hand about 2weeks before due date....especially adfter last time when she was very early with no signs of labour and gave us all a fright!

ours was a sight to see... mums a nurse and had been collecting things that were bein disposed of for various reasons (change of stocks etc) so-

first off bought whelping box
vet beds (lots of so a couple could be washed while using others)
pile of news papers (of course!)
theater sheeting
scales
industrial tub of sanitation wipes
sooker thing for fluid in the mouth (not sure of the actual name...)
accupunture needles
swaps/gauze etc
surgical scissors

and god only knows what else.

they emptied the guest bedroom of everything, covered the floor in industrial sheeting to make it easy to clean, lined the walls lol till half way up (hygenic and protects the paint from the variety of manky fluids!)

oh and pictures of baby puppies round the walls to complete the nursery feel, and a pic of Kizzies mum the night before she had her
was mad.

lol people on ebay are selling whelping kits  but the seem to be missing a few bits and im wondering if its cheaper for my friend to buy it all seperate and another question what are the difference betwen all thse:

as to me they all seem to do the same thng wich ones are a must have just incase and also has anyone got any experience of using synolux on newborns to prevent or cure fading puppy syndrome thanks sasha really appreciates all ur help and is about as clueless as me

i bought one on ebay, cost me £40 plus postage, there was loads of different things in it, most of which was not needed, but good to have at hand just incase.
the best thing would be to take a look at a few of these "kits" on ebay,which has everything in them listed and then go out and buy them it will be ALOT cheaper, anything that she is not able to get she can then do a search for it on ebay.
Also tell her to get a copy of the book of bitch, it will give her a good idea what to expect.

I have dopram v and Nutridrops calcium is not a necessity with my breed but some require it more than others so prabably worth having in stock I use puppy saver too from fit and fertile used it on a puppy from this litter pup was feeding within a few minutes .

I find an electric oil filled heater/radiator is useful to keep the room background warm all around the clock rather than have the Central heating on all night.

They don't do the same thing.  Dopram is a drug used fro respiratory difficulties.  And synulox is a prescription only medicine, which needs to be used under veterinary direction.

needed tons of disposable gloves and used tea towels to dry pups so tons of them. also had blood stopper but never needed it and chicken soup for mum post whelp.

we used a heat pad for when mum wasn;t in with them, it was one that heated up when they lay on it, not the rest of the time so they didn;t get to hot.

also coffee! (for the humans obviously), it can take a while sometimes!

If the litter is due there is a cheap batch of Dopram V on there. It is a risk wasting it but for a litter due now.

is videne antiseptic solution ok on pups umbilical cords it Contains Povidone-Iodine 10%

Don't put anything on them.  No need. If they become infected in any way have the vet see them.  I have never had one yet. If everything is clean there is generally no problem.

hi she has ordered the book of the bitch she was completely unprepared  as it ws an accident a friend of hers ws looking after her sbt kobi and she came into season and mated with this "friends" sbt anyway i dont think it was so accidental on his part as he wanted another puppy but dint want to pay for one if you see wat im getting at but it is the worst timing as my friend is due her 3rd baby in may anyway the good thing is they are both kc and health tested so that is something at least and now i can get my puppy from someone i know but i have volunteered to help her when they are due as she only lives down the road and with a new baby she isnt going to have time for puppys

Oh dear, what a shame. Poor little dog, this is the time the little girl need peace, privacy and a well planned list of suitable owners for her precious little babes.

My reply was not constructive I'm afraid because my overwhelming feeling was that I could cry for this little bitch.
