In order to get to where he was sleeping they had to scale both a neighbour's fence and the owner's fence (both 6ft high) and the entire episode seems to have been very carefully planned.

The owner realised he was missing when she went to let him out the following morning.

She had previously been approached by two men with Irish accents who claimed they wanted to buy him and take him to Ireland, they'd asked if they could meet at a petrol station.

She ignored the phone calls, and the dog went missing the following night.
