i know this sounds yucky but,, my dog always has gunk in the corners of his eyes, its not smelly, green or bloody, sometimes its a whitish colour, sometimes its the normal black stuff dogs occasionally get,
quite often they water a lot,ive even seen droplets fall from his eyes, like proper tears. or hes got like a water dribble mark running from his eyes and im constantly wiping them. he isnt itching his eyes or blinking a lot,it doesnt seem to bother him.
this is new to me,i was lucky with my last dog,i had no problems with him until the end,(god bless his soul) so apologies if is sound like an over cautious dog owner.

Does he have particularly deep set and/or almond shaped eyes?  Sometimes this shape and set can be problematic - youngsters which start off with minor ongoing ailments in the eyes often grow out of it (literally) as the skull/head breaks and it's always a good sign that there is no obvious infection.

It might be worth mentioning to your vet on your next visit just in case any of the lashes are rubbing the eye or growing inwards.  Ongoing problems can lead to ulceration which is painful and more difficult to cure.  The thing that makes me concerned is your description of watery eyes/tears hence why it's worth seeking a professional opinion.

i was going to book an appointment with the vets, but i didnt want to appear an over anxious owner mean by
what do you deep set?...(dont mean to appear thick)
.x.

Yikes, trying to find a way of describing what I mean is going to make me seem thick LOL - you're well and truly off the hook hon :-D

The best way I can come up with of describing it is to say that the actual eyeball doesn't seem at all prominent - well set back in the bone of the skull ....... for eg! Pugs have, naturally, very prominent eyes whereas Chows have naturally deeper set eyes (some to the point of the lids almost seeming partially closed)

Methinks maybe I'll have to search out some pics LOL or does this make sense without them?

here's hoping the pug & chow brigade forgive me :-D :-D :-D

hmmmmm, now im going to appear thick....lol
as far as i can tell,he has normal shaped eyes, theyre definately not set back...
and as for almond shaped,i thought most eyes were almond shape!....lol

Rrrrrrrright .......

Some eyes are much more obviously almond than others (SO wishing I'd never started down this route ROFLMAO) that is although tapering slightly in the corners when viewed head on some will nevertheless be quite open/round in appearance and - taken to the other extreme - some will be quite slitty (technical term obviously LOL).

HTH - if not let's hope someone less descriptively challenged gets on board soon :-D
