When we picked up our 9 week Cockerchon we noticed immediately very runny poos. She went for a poo around 8 times a day. She was being fed Beta Puppy Dry food and we continued with this for the first three days. I spoke to her breeder who said she had always been very runny and put it down to the food being moistened. I spoke to a vet who suggested changing her food. I researched and found lots of positive remarks about Naturediet. I have been giving her Beta mixed with the naturediet giving her smaller amounts of the dry each feed. Does anyone know how long this should continue before I switch to naturediet completely? Also she tends to eat round the dry food and just eat the Naturediet - what will happen if she forces the switch sooner than expected? Her poos are firming so think its working (so dont want to MAKE her eat the Beta).

Since both the breeder and yourself have noticed problems for this pup and your vet thinks it also points to the food then personally I'd ditch the dry you are using completely now   No point in further upsetting a sensitive digestive system by feeding something that is suspected of being the problem anyway - gradual change over is the normal recommendation but that's for when owners prefer or need to source another brand or type of diet - not IMO the best recommendation for situations such as yours.

When i picked up my pup the breeder advised giving him mashed up weetabix with milk for one of his 4 meals a day. This contributed towards his dodgy tummy and runny bottom. If you're doing this i would recommend you stop.

I'd just changed her straight over, if she is already having it mixed in and you think its working then go for it

I think it's a crossbreed cocker (whether English or American I don't know) with bichon frise.

I will try her on just Naturediet from now on - just worrying there was a reason why it is recommended to bring in gradually - but if its to prevent an upset stomach when she already has one then i suppose its by the by! Hi my pup had very runny poo with blood and mucus (sorry) very frequently each day but temp. was normal and was running around quite normally and didn't seem ill.  vet wasn't sure if it was change of food, environment, stress etc having left mum so gave 2 courses of antibiotics which didn't work. Changed onto naturediet puppy and within 2 meals the poos were solid. We haven't looked back since.

Read your last post- we just changed him straight over with the best results- not something that is usually recommended I know but he never showed any other signs of being ill, lethargic etc and even with the other food, he had a healthy appetite. We never wanted to feed what the breeder was feeding....

Peggy was the same - seems fine in herself, hungry, temp fine so will cross fingers and switch straight over from now on!

I fed him raw carrots as well ( as a bone) as naturediet already had it in. After a couple of weeks  i started giving him other veg too with his evening meal. Today I gave him his first real bone and he refused his lunch...LOL

Peggy is now doing solid poos in the evening and when I take her out at 5.00am but when she goes out after her breakfast she has runny poos again and then continues to have them throughout the day. She has followed this pattern for 2 days now. We arent giving her anything different to eat in the am (no treats etc) so wondering if anyone has come across this before?

how much are you feeding?? And how much water etc does she drink???

I know if our pups ate too much is made them looser....just a thought

Louis was exactly the same, soft all day and only more solid in the evening and for the first poo in the morning before he ate. It was as if when his tummy was empty the poo was ok but as soon as he had food in it it was soft again. As i said before , as soon as we changed to naturediet (puppy) two meals later he was fine!!  but all dogs are different and it could take Peggy longer for her tummy to settle. You've already changed over so i would give it a few more days, maybe up to a week. Did you stop the 'dry' food totally? As long as Peggy is eating and drinking normally and her bottom isn't sore  i wouldn't worry too much just yet. If there is blood or she is getting dehydrated or is acting 'sick' then see the vet. Has she been wormed?
Don't forget that poo is sometimes softer after they have been running around for a while (as if the tummy muscles are working harder and pushing out quicker )- this always happens when we take Louis out for a walk!!

Thanks for helpful advice - always nice to know its not abnormal! I took advice given and changed her straight on to naturediet. I am giving her around 3/4 pack per day so dont think this is too much (??). Hopefully her tummy will settle soon. She is eating everything i put down and drinking (not loads but enough I am sure) and is leaping around the place like a nutter so dont think she is poorly. She was last wormed about 8 days ago and have to do again in 6 days. She is going a lot less now which is great - it was about 8 times a day! Now around 4. Am getting more sleep which is great! My god, I totally forgot how much hard work it is when they are little - someone remind me when it gets easy!!!

Louis is having 3/4 of a pack too, split into 3 meals .First 2 are plain, 3rd with xtra veg and he only drinks 1 bowl a day if that!!! Your worming seems close together?   Our vet said 1 a month til 6 mths then every 3... oh and what wormer are you using ?  have read threads on here about wormers causing upset tums, so try and have a look at those.

Have replied on your other thread womblewoo - in short I think the timing between meals if not the amount per meal may be an issue?
