I am new here and I have a question. I have a female pug with pups 2 weeks old. 4 pups doing very well so far. They are huge and Im wondering when to start trying them with milk to supplement. The Mom is very healthy and is being fed everything she can eat but the pups are still taking a lot out of her. Princess also gets supplemnt that I origionally bought in case needed for pups. [She had a c section] I was raised on a farm and have whelped a lot of animals but not pugs before. Anybody have an opinion on this? would appreciate some advice...thanks

Hi, With my pug babes I only supplement with milk if it is necessary - usually when the pups are a day or two old, and Mum does not have enough milk, or the pup is in difficulties.  Pug pups who are doing well tend to be very plump, but if Mum looks fine and is producing enough milk to keep pups content, then don't worry.  Just keep feeding her high quality food, and enjoy the experience of baby pugs.  I start weaning my pups at about 4 weeks, but pups who are really enjoying the Mummy milk bar can be a bit slow (as can bottle fed pups, if anyone remembers my struggle with Pipsqueak!)

Sometimes you can, when it is pertinent to the problem, different breeds can have differing problems, and ways to fix them.
