Sorry about naming the breed of dog I own. I had no idea that was a rule I guess. It never even crossed my mind. I was beginning to wonder
why it was so frustrating trying to figure out what kind of dog everyone is talking about. Why the big mystery? My "DOG" had pups a couple of weeks ago so Ive been doing a little research and everywhere I go, it's like breeding is some big mystery...Whats with that?...And the advertising thing, I dont even know how to address that! Isnt it a bit childish. It sure reminds me of the "cloak and dagger" stuff of childhood secret clubs. Anyway, thought Id appolagise and tell you that at least you made me laugh.

Hi, I think it just applies to when you have pups cos it can be implied ( or construed? )that you are advertising for buyers!!!!
I think its silly too and sometimes the only way to get correct breed specific advice , is to name the breed.

Quite often, when a poster asks a question, someone will ask what is the breed - if you just send a Private Message (PM) to whomsoever has asked, then the breed-specific answer can often be given.

Over the years, we've become very cynical, I'm afraid - often rightly so - because a "new" poster will suddenly appear, with puppies, asking questions which are pretty basic, but at the same time implying that this is not their first litter

Although it may appear to be a silly rule, it is a very reasonable one!

Im still a little lost on this thing. Who cares what kind of dog you have? Do you actually think that someone would come on this site, pretending to be stupid, so they can advertise their puppies? Bit of an oxymoron dont you think? ...And what difference is it how many litters youve had? The last dog I had have pups had them in the barn and didnt let you find them for a week. I just couldnt remember when we started giving them warm milk from the cows. I thought that pugs might be a little different, being a small dog... and NO...I dont want to sell them. We bred them so we could give one to our grandaughter for her bday and the others are spoken for...

We can put pics up,albeit most are too small to recognise, and mention our breeds in our profiles,so i dont see it making a huge difference actually saying their names in a post.
I hate it when people say "my breed" when talking about their dogs,and most of these folk dont even have litters!

In your case, looking at the original post (and as I posted in response) I don't think there was a problem with you naming the breed, as it was pertinent to the query, and as the original post is still showing, I think admin and the moderators agree.  However,  straight forward litter "brags" can be seen as advertising.  I am not positive, but I guess that the thinking behind this is based on site revenue - you have to be a paid up member to advertise litters, so sneeking in litter details on the breeding forum could be seen as a way to circumnavigate the puppy list on themain site, and save the annual fee.

So most posts requesting help are required to be placed wihtout breed details, and can usually be dealt with helpfully without knowing the breed as lots of breeding queries and dilemas are general, and common through all breeds.  However, it is obvious that some queries requiring more specifics, eg those concerning toys breed, giant breeds, and others with problems or features which are breed specific.  In my experience admin are usually understanding and see these as genuine needs for help, so leave the post on including breed details.

Thanks for clarifying things for me. I didnt realise there was paid advertising on here. I guess that changes things somewhat. Pets are a big thing these days and  there are many schools of thought on numerous subjects. I just want whats best for the dog. By the way , Mama and babes are doing just fine. Growing really fast and starting to crawl. We are enjoying them immensly thanks for asking.

Yep you can be listed a s breeder for free, but any litter adverts are supposed to be paid for by taking out the paid advanced membership.

Then what are you supposed to say?  I say my breed, but I dont have any litters at the moment.  I am just refering to the breed I am involved with.

surely this rule is a bit daft now we can put photos of our dogs on the message, im certainly no genius but I can work out what breed most people own!!

Err..You for example could say min pins. I say Border terriers and so on and so on

But how are other readers supposed to know which breed you are "involved with"?
Yes we could all trawl through members profiles,but it would be so much easier to just say the breed!

But with the "no advertising rule" sometimes it gets confusing.  Like should I continuely say Min Pin?  Or can I say it once, and then say "this breed" or whatever?   Surely, you can see how confusing it is.  Especially if you have gotten a message saying that you arent allowed to say your breed. 

BTW:  I have a pic of a Springer, not Min Pin.  So would people think I have Springers as well?  When my pic is a tribute to my Joy, and not that I have a house of springers, then it could get confusing as well.

As long as you don't have a pregnant bitch or a litter then you can say the name of your breed because that can't be interpreted as an advertisement (unless your dog's for sale!).
