as most of you know my friends dog is expecting pups when i went the other day she said she was taking her for her booster thursday are they even allowed to give her it being pregnant and all i would of thought it was dangerous but she said the vet said it was ok slightly concerned myself with it all the poor dog

Iv never had a pregnant bitch due her booster but my friend took her girl for her booster and the vet thought she might of been pregnant even tho there was no way she could be as through her season she was never around a male but the vet wouldnt do it until he knew for sure that she wasnt, it turned out just to be a phantom, so not sure wether he was just being careful or wether they cant have it, but im sure some one who does know will be along soon.

My Vet wouldn't allow me to have my girl boostered when she was due to be mated. He said that there would be enough time when the pups had finished feeding from the mother.

Yet my previous vet would always booster a bitch before she was mated to make sure that she passed on antibodies to her pups. It seems there are many schools of thought!

It doesn't help us normal folk when the experts don't agree!

I would be a bit concerned too.  I thought that Live vaccines should never be given to a pregnant bitch but only before she was mated.

I personally wouldn't want to have a bitch boosted while she was in whelp, especially lepto. Vaccinatijng can cause problems at the best of times, and being pregnant does funny things to your body. Sadly, some poeple think vets know everything.

As far as I know, reccomendations are to have your bitch vaccinated 3-6 months prior to her coming into season if you want to breed.

I am planning to keep a pup from my next litter (assuming I have another litter, that is) and am going to have the pup titre tested before she is vaccinated, to see what antibodies she has accquired from Mum and how long they last. Mum herself has onyl ever had her puppy vaccs and never needed a booster, so I will be interested to see the results.

many many many years ago,  We always vaccinated the bitch two weeks before she was due to welp. Thinking this gave the pups maximum protection. One litter the pups were all born dead.  On this occasion the vet had used the live vaccine for the first time and he thinks it was that that killed them.

Tell her not to do it. I had my bich done at 5 weeks into her pregnancy and she absorbed the litter.

Last year one of my bitches was due her booster around the time of her season.  I spoke to my vet, as I wanted him to know that she was to be mated.  I went ahead and had her booster done on day 2 of her season.  She was later mated, carried her pups successfully, and I had no problems. 

I believe he indicated that it was okay to vaccinate a pregnant bitch, but it just doesn't sit comfortably with me, and, although I normally go with his experience, I won't have a pregnant bitch done.  Just before Christmas I had a bitch mated, knowing that she was due her booster the following week.  I didn't have it done.  I knew full well, that if it's not done within 3 months of the due date, my vet insists on doing the 2 jabs at fortnightly intervals. 

I had the booster done just before the 3 months was up.  Her pups were 4 weeks old, and I have had no problems at all. 

My vet doesnt give vaccines at all to a pregnant bitch.  Or a bitch in season. 

I would be concerned about the practices of this vet.  JMHO
