I was wondering if anyone could help, Im very interested in getting into showing

I currently have a Pug bitch who is 1yrs old and a 4mnth old Mini Bull terrier,
Id like to show the Mini Bull as she's showing great potential and comes from excellent pedigree

We currently attend pup training classes and i wish to get into showing,

i have applied for my ATC from kennel club and would love it if an fellow Pug/Mini bull owners could offer me advice or any shows that they know of as i would like to get out and about and become known,

I would be looking for a Pug to show next year so need to get as much info and practice as i can now,

Id be most grateful for any help or advice,

Is the dog from abroad?   Just that it shows you as being in the UK so you wouldn't need an ATC number

Michelle, if you tell us where you are maybe someone near you will know of ringcraft classes near you, these are excellent as they teach you how to present and move your dog, they also have show schedules so you at least know where and when there will be shows.

Just reading further and as your mini bull is only 4 months old it can't be from abroad.  You've asked for the wrong paperwork by the looks of things.  ATC is needed for foreign dogs who are going to be shown over here.

Hi no shes from UK i was advised by someone i would need a atc from kennel club if thinking of showing,

im in newcastle upon tyne Uk and have been having great difficulty finding ringcraft classes so would be most thankful if anyone knows of any!

So in regards to me showing would i need to register as a handler or anything?

Hi Michelle,

All you will need is her Kennel Club registration certificate which needs to be in your name, if you haven't transfered it yet you still can, if you look in the back of the certificate it will have a form to fill in for new ownership

You only need an ATC if she was from abroad but if she's UK KC Reg then you'll be fine if you do the above.

As said, asuming your dog is KC reg and you have done the transfer of ownership (or will do) thats all you need to do.  If the pup's breeder shows they should be your first port of call, or they might no someone in the breed who shows (ie stud dog owner)

Have you contacted the KC for a local ringcraft club?  Or someone on here might know of one near you.

Go along to afew shows and see what goes on, and if your breed is schedualed you will be able to watch and learn

ive just received a reply about a ringcraft class close to me thats on this coming thursday so going along to that and ive also just been informed theres a show at end of month so going to go along and chat to as many people as i can

That's great you don't need to do anything more then on the registration side.  The ringcraft will help you with the paperwork etc.

You need to be aware that entries for championship shows close sometimes two months before the show so it isn't to early to be thinking about entires for the pup.

Hi Michelle,

Ther are lots of ringcraft classes in the North East.  However, for someone just starting out you might like to think of the classes at Triple A, which is near Washington.  It does the standard Ringcraft on a Tuesday evening, but also has a special "beginners" ringcraft, which takes the owners and the dogs through all the steps, right from handling, paperwork, filling in entry forms etc., it might be just what you need.  When you progress to the regular ringcraft there are lots of other Toy Dogs attending (along with dogs of all other sizes too)  it is a great venue, and not too noisy (which can be offputting for novice dogs).  I have Pugs too, and even though it is now a 50 min. trip each way for me I still use this ringcraft for puppy training, as it gives the best experience for the pups just starting out.

Any way shes one now and coming along great!

For gaining experience in the ring there's nothing like an Open Show   a step between Ringcraft and Championship showing    They are usually very friendly and there is often a few people willing to help a novice in the ring, even the ones in the ring with you!!    You can find info about Open Shows at ringcraft and in the Dog Papers (Our Dogs or Dog World from a newsagent)

Also there's nothing like a limit show.  Start at the bottom and get to the top.  To many new people these days seem to think that champ shows are the be all and end all.  Companionship shows are brilliant to go to as well and a lot more fun.
