Hi, not sure if my dog is actually pregnant as the scan we had showed up as nothing there, however she is showing signs that she is. The vet has suggested an X ray scan to see if that brings anything up, however is this safe??? as xrays on pregnant women aren't. Thanks Alex

Its personal preference really Alex.
Some people always have them and some never do, i dont think theres any real risk but if anything was to go wrong.....
i dont think its particularly common, the general thought is not to do them just incase. however, studies have shown that dogs unfortunately do not love long enough to suffer effects of radiation from xrays so probaly no real harm. could u repeat the scan in a week or so?

When I thought my girl was having a singleton pup, my vet wouldn't x-ray, he said it was safer to scan, so we stuck with the scan and yes she did have just the one pup.
If my dogs don't like you, I probably won't either!

X-raying, even routinely after day 42 seems to be pretty common in the USA (ultrasound seems less commonly used by Vets), I wouldn't do it personally.
Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails.

What day was she scanned? A later scan may clarify the situation.

Someone who used one of my dogs nearly 4 weeks ago had her bitch scanned at just before 6 weeks told there were no pups. They knew that she was due to her signs symptoms, so they had her scanned again 2 weeks later to be told that there may be two pups there, she ended up having 5!
My dogs aren't my whole life, but my life wouldn't be whole without them. 05/01/08 11 stone 12 lbs

I was X rayed....26 years ago, as I was opting to have my baby somewhere a little more remote.
The wisdom then was no harm but potentially in a few generations time.
