my hands are almost back to normal, my pup prefers to chew bleached, dry cow skin than mine!!!  yipeee!  I tried every method I read to stop him eating my hands!  A pack of three rolls from P@H, just like giving a baby a dummy-peace at last! :-)

My 2 year old Border Collie got the knot ends stuck in his throat

when asked at "the Range" what else i can give him the woman said she trains staffs and was trained to take out something lodged in her dogs throat
she told me not to give in but keep letting my dog have these hide bone chews and that's how he learns that he needs to chew smaller
she said this is how dogs learn???

Well i may not have much in the way of brains! But common sense (i think i excel with)

gave the bone ones a miss and bought some hide rolls (looks like cigars) 20 rolls for £6.99 - with no problems at all

not only Harvey's gagging put me on edge but wasn't prepared for a serious accident to happen!!!

Yes thats what these are, just like cigars :-) no knots at the ends or anything but I wouldnt have known not to give those ones (thanks for the info), just lucky I picked these ones instead.

Wilkinsons do small (thinner ones) of the same 50 (I think but could me 100!) for £1.99
Another day, another lesson learned :-)

thin ones - great for the little dogs!!!

but not nearly enough for mine !

even a marrow bones only lasts 3-4 days!!!

Suppose it really depends on the size, breed, age and condition of the teeth & gums!

forgot to mention hide shoes

I hate them and wont buy them!

The shoe laces are a dangerous choking hazzard!

although, again, i guess some dogs are absolutely fine with them !

My pup has the chew bone with the knots in the ends. I never leave him unatended when chewing and I always cut the ends off when they start to get soggy. Last night he was on the sofa with me, chewing his bone on my lap, I was engrossed in a film, the next thing I new he was gagging on a bit he had chewed off, so I immediatly put my hand in his mouth & managed to pull out the bit that was stuck in his throat. Thankfully he has a large mouth and is used to me putting my hand in (to get things out that get stuck in his floppy jowls). He was fine, but it took me a while to stop shaking, if that bit had gone a little bit further down I wouldn't have been able to reach it, it frightened the life out of me.
I've taken it off him now, but I feel like a right meannie, he loves that chew bone :-(
