Previous Next Up Topic Other Boards / Foo / Sleep in Jobs, how do they pay?
By shelwil (**) Date 13.03.08 13:54 GMT
This might sound like a silly question, but I am thinking about applying for a sleep in cares job. I need to make sure it would be worth my while financially to apply for it or not as I dont want to waste peoples time, so how do they work, it is #8 (pound sign not working) and hour then #32 a night. so do they pay the hourly rate all throught the night as well as the sleep in fee on top, or the hourly rate until your duties are finished and you go to bed then the sleep in fee on top?

Thanks
Sheli

It all depends on the company, their own pay structure and their client base.

In our company there's wakeovers (awake all night) - dozeovers (awake for most of the night but can sleep when not wanted) and sleepovers where you can sleep for a set amount of time unless there's an emergency.  We get paid per hour for wakeovers (£9 ph), but dozeovers and sleepovers are paid per night (£68 and £40 respectively).  The sleepovers will be expected to work from 8pm, when the night shift come on duty, until 10pm when they can go to bed and then 7 am until 8am when the day staff come in.  The hours either end are not paid on top of the sleepover rate.  The dozeovers are expected to work until all the menial duties are done, then they can go to sleep and then be awake if anyone gets up.

I hope this isn't too confusing and is only how the company I work for structure it.  Others will differ.

Thanks its for a lady in a her own home,  I think I will apply anyway as I have worked it out and if the hourly rate does stop when I go to bed its still well paid, better then were I am now, so same money less hours, more time with the dogs and horses.  Sounds good to me :-)
