My 3 pups have had lots of very dark treacly poos today,it's shiney and runny. They seem fine in themselves. The only difference to their diet has been more freshly cooked rabbit than normal last night.I'd be grateful for any ideas. Thanks

sorry, not much help here, I haven't experienced that (never had a litter of pups :-( ) but I'm sure somebody will have some good advice - it might help if you say what age they are weather they are in the process of being weaned, it may make a difference to the advice givven.

Thanks, they have been seen by the vet and he thinks i have nothing to worry about. They are nearly 11 weeks old.Probably been scrabbling around in the garden and eaten little stones or something. They are full of beans so will just keep an eye on them.

Hi Lucylu.

I have read previously that dark tarry stools can be caused from an infection or blood in the small intestine. Viral infections can irritate the wall of the small intestine temporarily causing it to bleed resulting in dark tarry stools.

However if your vet has checked the pups over and is happy, then I am sure there is nothing to worry about.

Let us know how they are tomorrow and if their poos are back to normal.

Take care
