Yes, the Burns website.

The Burns website is good because the deliveries free (some other web companies offer Burns cheaper but charge a lot for delivery) or if you look on the website for your nearest stockist and compare prices. It's cheaper for me getting it from my pet shop than the Burns website.

I have used the Burns website and they are very good, but I have also found a supplier of the Burns food, not too far away from me, just a little old fashioned pet shop and the owner of the shop is brilliant!!  my OH normally picks up a sack of Burns on the way home from work, but if he is running late, he calls the pet shop and he stays open until my OH gets there!!
The pet shop owner has also put sacks of food aside for us when he is running short on a particular flavour that I regularly buy to make sure its there for when I call !!!
If there was a competition for the best, customer service, friendly helpful and reliable pet shop I would nominate this guy hes great!!

As most of it is 63% rice why not just make it   or mix meat with rice.

All you would need is a massive pot for all of the rice needed,a little bit of meat,a dash of oil and a multi vitamin/mineral supplement.I have also noticed their prices have gone up due to
"rising cost of haulage and cereals such as brown rice"....

Do you know the percentage of protein that an average dog needs?  Have you got this information to hand?  You keep slagging off Burns.  On what fact or information is this based on?

Burns is a food made of cheap ingredients,mainly rice and customers are charged inflated prices for this! The reason it is so low in protein and fat is that it doesn't contain much meat.Mr Burns's answer for everything seems to be "feed less protein and fat",if you read his answers in the dog mag he contributes to.
From what i have gleaned from other dog forums mostly from canine nutritionists(studying modern up to date theories) is that normal healthy dogs shouldn't be fed commercial foods of less than 24% .

For comparisons sake,here are some figures for fat/protein levels of raw meat,the dogs natural diet,see how greatly the values to differ from most commercial foods?

Values include meat and bone.DMB=Dry Matter Basis,which needs to be converted when comparing dry food to wet food.

Chicken Quarter with Skin - 60% moisture, 16% protein, 21% fat (DMB 40% protein, 53% fat)

Chicken Carcass - 62% moisture, 18% protein, 14% fat (DMB 47% protein, 37% fat)

Lamb Shank - 65% moisture, 23% protein, 8% fat (DMB 66% protein, 23% fat)

Calcium and phosphorus (combined) ranged approx 2 - 2.5%.

My information is based on the fact that 15K bag of food that is MIN 63% rice ( Yes a Minimum)  means that at least 9.45KG of the contents of the bag is rice.   IT SAYS IT ON THE BAG

Baring in mind that Burns is one of the most expensive complete foods on the market at an average of £40 per bag and £45 for their organic which isn't even brown rice.

In my opnion to have such a high content of rice is a joke at that price.    You can buy a 8  KG bag of Wholegrain rice in Tesco for £5.00  and buy a couple of trays of chicken for a 1/4 of the price.

PS I am not slagging anything of just telling the truth If people choose to feed and it is fine then that is up to them.  You can buy a bag of decent enough wholewheat mixer for £15 for 15KG from Natures Menu and mix it with meat for a fraction of the cost.

Mine's to be honest get a bit of everything ,  Breakfast can be a variety of meat with some mixer, a very small handful of Orijen , I even have tins of Butchers tripe in the grooming room incase the odd time I have forgotten to defrost meat,  Dinner can be raw chicken wings or legs, tripe and mixer, cooked chicken mixed with a mixer , veggies and sometimes eggs.

I don't feed A raw diet as a rule just a bit of everything.

In stock just now in my grooming room I have:

Natures menu frozen blocks of meat Various
Price Choice frozen blocks of meat Various
Laughing Dog Mixer and laughing Dog Tripe Dinner I use as a mixer.
Butchers Tripe tins I very occasionally use this as a gravy almost with the above Tripe dinner
Wafcol Salmon and Potato puppy (use this as a mixer a very small handful)
Trays of frozen Minced beef, Trays of frozen chicken wings and legs.
Frozen Liver and lamb.

I think you have a valid point about Burns food!  Why pay so much when you can maybe half the cost and feed raw food!  More tasty I would think also for dogs.  I would like to change Tank onto that kind of diet but is it not hard finding the right balance?

I think a variety gives you the balance. A complete food fed constantly I don't really think is really balanced.

My moto is to use your eyes, is the dog vibrant, happy, a good weight , not over weight.   Then you are doing it right.

PS I have just a bog standard fridge freezer in the garage. Infact just my old one.   The only thing I use the fridge part is for the defrosting of the meat. I take it out the freezer the day before and leave it in the fridge till I need it.   Hubby sticks an odd can of beer in it when I am not looking

Re Burns....Their site shows some 'new additions' to their food range. A 'high energy' one for large breed puppies/any underweight dog........new canned food, and some of the bags contain meat first and the working dog one has a higher oil content....they don't use caged birds but do get lamb in from NZ.....what do those of you that follow food think of these new items, are they really improved?

I think the high energy has been available for quite a long time if it is the one I think.     The cans are really expensive. If you compare then to similar. IE Natures menu meat blocks which contain Rice and vegetables also.
