Hi, I have had an Irish Setter that was on Vivitonin. She was 12 1/2 when she began to have Transient Ischaemic Attacks. She improved alot on the medication. I eventually lost her a year later when she had a stroke.
You do know that they should stay on this treatment permanently.

Hi Dawn thx for your reply....Jet has only had three tablets now and I don't know if its a coincidence but he seems even more agitated.... how long did it take to see any improvements with your dog??? he paces for hours sometimes. The vet prescribed them to calm him as it seems he may have
Canine Cognitive Dysfunction Syndrome. did you notice any side effects??
Kind regards
Lisa

Hi Lisa, it's difficult to remember for sure about how quickly I saw improvements in my bitch Holly, because this was all back in 1994-95. I can't think there was a problem though. Vivitonin is a drug that improves cerebral perfusion, so it may well be reasonable to think that things seem worse before they get better, simply because the dog has to cope with a change. I think it probably takes a little time to establish whether or not this treatment is going to be helpful. Stick with it and fingers crossed it will all work out.
What I would say though, is, dont take him off it without consulting your vet first. I hope he starts to improve soon.

My 15 1/2 year old Goldie has been on vivitonin for over 2 years now, since he suffered a stroke. I can't say I've noticed any side effects at all or changes in behaviour. I hope it works out for your Dobe.

Hi Dawn thx you've given me some hope

I meant to say how sorry i was about the loss of Holly.....I lost a dobe bitch (Amber) years ago... its still raw... you never stop missing them do you. I know i'm so lucky to still have Jet and at almost 14 for a dobe he's amazing really. Do you have any 4 legged friends now?? Your profile says your in the USA...where about are you...? Lisa x

Hi Lisa
He has certainly improved, when he first had the stroke he walked round in circles, had a head tilt and was generally a bit unsteady. It's difficult to say if that is down to the vivitonin or just a general improvement, but I'm not going to stop the medication just in case. He still goes out for walks and is happy in himself.
My first Dobe lived until she was nearly 14, you are very lucky to have one at such a good age, the oldie's are soooo special aren't they!

Hi Karen
It's good to hear positive news re the vivitonin....I hate giving him tablets ( I nearly lost him 5 year ago due to an adverse reaction to Rimydol ) but if these tablets with help him in any way it's worth a try...I would do anything for him.....sell the house....not sure what the husband would say though LOL

...
I don't think Jets had a stroke...however.... he also keeps walking round in circles... almost runs.
We are both so lucky to share so much precious time with our dogs / dobes. I don't know of many who have lived to their age!!!
Here's to lots more woof licks and wags.

Lol lol lol, sorry for giggling. I'm not in the USA, I'm in Northumberland. My profile shows me in the USA because my Internet Service Provider is AOL.
Yes I have lots of 4 legged friends. I've got 6 American Cocker Spaniels and 2 Irish Setters. Ranging in age from 11 1/2 to 17 weeks old.
