My GSD bitch was spayed 4 days ago and has a swelling where the stitches are, she is wearing a elizabethan collar all the time now since overlicking it when she came home. She had her post op check yesterday and the vet nurse said it looked ok.  I have dapped it with colloidal silver which really helped to dry it up.  Is is normal to have a small swelling around the wound - this is my first bitch so its new to me.  She seems very well in herself.

Ebba was spayed last year and hers swelled quite alot, right along the scar. It was from doing too much!!! (Ebba was 2 at the time and to stop her doing too much was impossible!!!! LOL) It is the fluid that causes the swelling, and the vet said it may weep.
It did weep, and the vet said keep an eye on it. It took alot longer to heel than when my old girl was spayed.
So just try and keep her as calm as possible, and it will go down Any worried take her back to the vets

I would keep an eye on it. I've not had a bitched spayed but my did get a severe reaction in her neck after microchipping and had to have an op to remove the infected tissue. The vet told us there would be a bit of swelling as fluid fills up the void that has been left to protect the body (so the same will happen after spaying). However, our girl really swelled up to the point where her neck was enormous and she ended up going for a 2nd op to have a drain put in.

You mentioned though that the swelling is small so it sounds like its just part of the natural healing process. As I said though keep an eye on it incase it continues to swell. Wishing her a speedy recovery!

Yu can buy from pet shop Vetyme  veterinary antibacterial Powder from Pet shop to help the wound to keep infections out. Need let it breath and dry out. other wise let the vet have another look at it, in a day or so if no better, if your still not happy.
