Pup has just swallowed an elastic hair bobble, what do I do?  Will he be ok?

If in any doubt call your emergency vet for advice.

If it was swallowed recently you may be looking at making the pup sick to bring it back up.  If it was a while back it may be a case of adding oil to the next few light feeds and checking all the 'output'.  What breed and age is the pup.....just to get an idea of how big the hair bobble is in relation to the diameter of the intestines?  In other words, it's less likely to be of an issue for a teenage large breed than for an 8 week old toy breed.

My understanding is that you should only make a dog sick if what has been swallowed is likely to cause more harm than the process of making it sick.  (In other words, if raisins or chocolate in sufficient quantity, then there's no debate.)

My gut instinct is to say that he is likely to be fine....just add some oil to his feed and keep a close eye, watching for any sign of stomach discomfort and check that his motions are normal/regular.  Someone more experienced may post soon, in which case go with their advice or phone your breeder or duty vet.

Fingers crossed....good luck.

PS  Should add that have known dogs to swallow far worse and be absolutely fine.  :-)

U welcome Zoe.  Am assuming that it was just a bog standard hair bobble and didn't have any large/sharp/ornate decorative bits attached to it???  (Just checking!!)

PS  A working cocker sounds fun!  What are your plans for him?  Have HPRs myself, but must admit I am tempted......one day!  :-)

Sorry, I had to go out, took pup to his 1st party, it was at a farm, he loved it!!!   met a little white fluff ball used to herd cattle there.

Anyway, luckily it was just a standard bobble, still cant believe he wolfed it down rather than letting me take it off him hes not usually like tha either, drops to command reasonably well.

I really dont know what I have planned for him yet, I think I fancy doig agility but hes my first dog and I think I have alot to learn about training so I may not be able to train him to that level, we will see, hes been ok so far but we are only on basic stuff.

What is a HPRs? :-)

I know of a working springer that eats socks regularily :o :o :o
He is trained to the gun but still manages to swipe them. One came out while I was working there one day and has to be helped the rest of the way out :o :o :o :o :o :o
Am sure your pup will be fine :-)
