iv tried in the past to make dog food, my dogs get bored with dry and love tinned food, however iv found numerous things in tinned that has put me off even picking them off the shelf, there is so much water in it and the additives are rediculus, we sometimes add tuna in sunflower oil but they get bored of that too.

I've just started my 8 month old puppies on a complete Barf diet (BONES AND RAW FOOD) as it is completely natural and they only eat what you put in.Consists of raw meat and veg.They love it and are doing well.Can give you more details if you are interested.

this is what I make up for mine...
I buy freeflow raw minced beef from P@H, a third of a bag feeds my 5 for 1 meal.
I let the meat defrost, and at the same time defrost half a bag of frozen mixed veg by pouring boiling water and leaving to cool, in a large tupperware container.
I then hand blend the veg until it is like a pulp, and add the defrosted meat.
The mixture is very wet, and I add about 500g of oats to bulk it out, and it becomes like a stodge (mix well so no dry oats)
It is then divided between the dogs, and every other meal I add about a tablespoon of oil.

so bear in mind the amounts above are for 4 Deerhounds and a Lurcher for 1 meal, but it gives some idea of how to make a "dog food"  

I also buy 500g packets of minced chicken from the local kennels, and will substitute 2 bags of chicken for the mince and make up the meal as above.

It's all a bit of trial and error, find what works for yours

I add herbs to mine,parsley as its good for digestion,thymme,and a bit of basil.I also add garlic and 1/3 packet of mixed seeds that contain flax,linseed and sunflower.I whizz this up with carrot,beetroot,apple,orange sprouts and other greens.Most things are fine but no grapes or raisins.I can remember years ago - about 25 years ago when I had GSD we added calcium and bran but this isn't required and I certainaly don't add any supplements now.I have 2 butchers who supply me with organic mince and bones. They both charge 25p a pound and the bones are free.I add the veggies to the defrosted meat and add either 1 raw egg or a couple of spoonfuls of probotic yogurt.

                  when l wanted to stop feeding kibble l slowly introduced different meats etc and cooked them gently and eventually reduced the cooking time until over a few months everything was raw. My dog couldnt handle raw to start with so cooking the meat was easier for him to digest, but now he eats raw just fine.
My dog get lamb beef chicken turkey venison tripe rabbit kidney liver and heart as well as canned sardines and egg. Eggshell for calciun, fish oil and vit E. and some steamed mushed veg and sometimes a bit of fruit.

There are lots of great websites for homemade diets that covers most questions you might have.
They cover loads of recipes for raw and cooked and give loads of great tips.
