I've been reading through the health forum (usually more of a reader than poster) and you've restored my faith in human nature, thank you for that.  There are some post about your dogs going through serious illness and how you are doing what you think best and helping them fight.
One of our dogs is ill and has been in hospital since last thursday, it will be about 4-6 weeks until we know the true outcome but he wants to fight it we can see it in his eyes and how he's behaving so we're helping him.
The amount of people who've called us mad and one even said we were freaks (i'm glad to be called that if it means i'm helping my boy!) has been astounding but made me all the more determined.  Many have said about the money etc which yep it does come into it and i bet it does for most people but we'll do whatever we have to for his treatment if it's going to help.

So thanks Champdogs people it's heartening to know there are some lovely people who have restored my faith for a while.

I am guessing by the time scale you are talking about that you are going through the same thing as us. Lets hope we are both successful. Really hard to cope with though isn't it.

Our boy collapsed last thursday, he's due home this thursday and yesterday we found that a piece of disc has shot through his spine.  He's not out pf the woods by any means but after 4-6 weeks we should know how much feeling he'll get back.  It's going to be one day at a time till then.

I'm willing all of your fur friends to get through this, i know what it's like to have dog with cancer and it's not easy for you or the dog.

Oh, so not the same thing, but a friend phoned me last night in a panic on his way to the Vets. His dogs had all gone out for their run and he was just closing the gate behind him when he heard a scream and saw one of this bitches crawling along with no use in her back legs. She was kept in last night and he  is being referred to a neurological hospital  (hopefully) today. I am guessing her problem is similar to your boy. Please let me know how you get on.

Paula, my Dad calls me crazy/stupid/insane/take your pick! every time we talk about my dogs - he can't undersstand me having 4, and if I mention Soli (who is on lifetime incontinence meds, will most likely be on lifetime thyroid meds very soon and who I drove 2 hours to a specialist hospital for a cardio screen at the other side of the counry in January) he thinks I'm completely bonkers!  He's told me to rehome her more than once but I think he may have finally given up.

But like you, I don't care - if that means I'm doing right by her then so be it.  Everyone at work thinks I'm nuts; let them!  Mind you, a fair few people at work know I also have a spare room full of rats, so I suppose I can't really argue

Fingers and paws are crossed here for your boy, do let us all know how he gets on.  I'm sure he'll be just fine.

This sounds exactly like my boy's problem, he was referred to Chester Gate Referral Hospital and has been there since.  We won't know the full extent of damage for another 4-6 weeks, yesterday he was very perky and like himself but today he has a high temp so being kept very calm and quiet.

Please pass my best wishes on to your friend as he must be in complete shock like we are, and to you and yours as well.  On the up side we met a lady with a GSD yesterday (at the vets) who had had the same problem and he is now ok apart from a limp and being a little slower now, it gives us some hope.

Nikita my Mum should meet your dad, LOL she's the same!!  She loves our dogs but thinks we spend more time worrying about them than humans (yep we probably do, LOL)

Ohh a room full of rats, i love em!!  My hubby is petrified of them and when i had hamsters he would not even go within sight of the room they were kept in   When one escaped he grudgingly helped me look for her in full body armour, wellies, gardening gloves, hat etc

So sorry to hear about your boy. My dogs are like my children and I have 2 of the 2 legged kind! and deserve the best treatment whatever the cost if there is a chance of a positive outcome. Fingers crossed for you and your boy.

Yep my dogs are the same they are treated better than us most of the time, LOL  Today beds and bits & pieces have been bought for Toby for his home coming and hubby has booked a fortnight off work as well (he wouldn't do that for me!! LOL)

Hee hee he needs body armour just to go in Pets at Home with the little furries on sale there, earlier on he wanted to bypass them in there but i was looking at the rabbits, they're the smallest he can stand

Cant offer much advice, havent been in the situation.  But I do hope your boy is going to get on better.  It is so hard to see your babies like that.

When people ask me, how I can spend so much money on dogs (totally different health issues, but money still in question) I ask would they not do it for their kids?  Would they say that the money being spent on their kids, eventually get to high, and they give up?  Of course they wouldnt.  To me, my dogs are my kids, and I will spend every last penny on them, if I have to.  Just because my kids have 4 legs and not two, doesnt make the devotion and nurturing instinct go away. 

You need to do what you feel is right, dont let those who dont understand get in your way of what you believe is best to do.  Like they say:  Those who have been there cant explain.  Those who havent cant understand.
