Peggys tummy problems seem to be sorting themselves out finally but we are due to start puppy training tonight and im unsure of what treats I should be using. At the moment she has few treats - tripe sticks, dried beef but these are obviously not great for quick treats at training! Anyone have any ideas of treats for a pup with a sensitive tummy?

I am a mean mummy and usually just take some of my pup's biscuits from her meal allowance to training, but then she is food obsessed and will do most stuff for even a bit of her normal biscuits!

She too has tummy probs (think I posted on one of your other threads), but seems ok with grilled sausage cut up into small pieces, small pieces of hard goats cheese and the Pure Incentives fish treats made by James Wellbeloved.

how about making up some liver cake, that way you know what it has got in it.  Easy to make, easy to cut down small and the dogs go mad for it.

Hot dog sausages or wafer thin ham torn into small pieces.

Chicken is always a good one, esp if they have sensitive tums! 

Yes, I was going to recommend trying liver cake too.  By the time you have added the flour (and eggs to bind) the actual amount of liver being fed in each treat is minimal and therefore not too rich.

i use chicken or cheese

I make tuna cake and find it's great for pups (tuna, eggs, flour with optional yoghurt, olive oil and garlic). Too much liver, even in cake form goes through my dogs as does cooked chicken. They can eat pounds of it raw but too much cooked chicken give them dire rears. The tuna cake can be broken off and squidges up into tiny pieces just right for small pups. Nature's Menu also make little dried meat treats that can be cut in half so they're good for quick training treats (no sugar in them). Tiny pieces of cheese are good in small amounts. I like to provide a variety so the dog is surprised and I can keep them working for the lowest value treat they'll do a behaviour for. I combine that with the dog's regular kibble as low value treats and use the nice stuff for 'bigger' things.

Anything you have arund at the time that is "a treat" for training purposes i specifically use something he only has for training as a reward. Chicken, ham, cheese, sausage etc.
Freddie has a very very sensitive tum but its  amazing how far you can make one sausage go by cutting it up really really small!!!That way he only gets a little bit & doesnt turn into a big fat bloater!!

I use cooked chicken now, I just find that they prefer it to anything else, it is easy to do, not bad to handle, good for sensitive tummies and my OH thinks it is just the left overs from a lovely roast made for him. Where as I know it was made for the dog !!!!!!!!!!!
