Hi, I have only posted on here a couple of times with my boy's health.  He is having surgery tomorrow and I am really frightened for him.  They will be having a look at his kidneys, liver, stomach, intestine and pancreas and taking biopsy's at various points.  He has really bad pancreas attacks, even being on a low fat high digestive biscuit by RC and also has Lypex capsules added to his food to try to help him digest his food.  I'm scared of what they will find and of what they wont find if that makes sense.  He was only one year old on Sunday and I keep having panic attacks about tomorrow.  Just wanted to talk about it.

Hope it all goes well for Floyds op tomorrow Jane.
It's a horrible thing to be going through for you both.  I've not had any experience with pancreas illness's but on a practical level one thing i always do when going to the vets is write any questions out on some paper.  That way i don't forget when i panic there.

Let us know how it all goes.

Good luck for tomorrow, I will have my fingers crossed for you. I know it must be very worrying for you but try to remember its for his benefit and will hopefully start the road to recovery from his health problems. He certainly has age on his side and its far better to know whats wrong then you know the options available to you, he can be treated more quickly and know what you can do to help improve things for your boy.

Thinking of you, give him and cuddle from me (and one for you of course) let us know how he gets on.

Hi Jane, I don't have experience with this problem but have been through many procedures with my 2 chows.

It's perfectly normal to be scared and stressed for your boy but this is really a way forward for him, the sooner he is diagnosed the sooner he can be on a treatment path.

I've spent more than one time at the vet bawling my eyes out and really found it helpful to have a calmer person with me who can remember everything that is said!

Good luck for tomorrow and a big hug for your boy,
Mel

Hi all, thank you all for your support, took Floyd down at 9am this morning, very emotional for me, blubbed in the vets and when I got back in the car.  Had to go into a meeting at work this afternoon, the vets called and left a message for me to call them urgently, only to find out, that all they wanted to know was if I wanted to have him castrated while he was under, of which when I signed the consent form this morning, the only request that I made was to have his nails clipped.  So after nearly having heart failure, they told me that they had found nothing abnormal, everything looked as it should do and that they had taken biopsies from various parts of his internal organs, stomach and intestine.  So now we have to wait for results to come back.  Resisting the urge to go see him tonight, want to keep him settled while he is there as he gets so boisterous and excited when he has been away from us.  Hopefully if he is ok through the night and tomorrow morning we should be able to pick him up tomorrow afternoon, though we have been told to keep him very quiet for 5 days at least (easier said than done with his breed) and very minimal exercise for 10 days after that.  Can't wait to see him.
Thank you all again for your support.  I will keep you updated on his progress and results.

Hi, we have just got back from the vets with Floyd, absolutely wonderful to see him and have him back at home.  They said we had to keep him quiet for 5 days, but when the vet brought him out and he saw us, he was jumping up in the air to try to give us kisses, snorting everywhere, he has obviously taken everything in his stride, he is now fast asleep on the rug, dreaming of something as his feet are twitching and he is making little woofy noises.
He has got a buster collar on which he hates, but we take him back for a check up on Monday evening and if everything is ok he may not have to wear it anymore.  We have been told that the results should be back within 7 to 10 days depending on how busy the lab is.
Just glad he is back home.

Our border did not get on with a coller thing so we fitted him with a tee shirt tied in a knot on his back, Jake had his shoulder operated on for OCD, the Teee shirt works a treat and he had his black sexy one, Bart Simpson and cheapie ones from Sainsbury's. Would recommend them if he is too unhappy in his collar

Thanks Whistler, what a good idea, we have actually taken off his buster collar, and he isn't the slightest bit interested in his scar, if we have to leave him at all we put the collar back on.
