I went to a local country park today and there was a couple with two dogs. One looked like a Poodle cross and the other an Irish Water Spaniel cross. As I walked past someone approached and asked the lady what they were.

Pointing to the poodle ish one she said "that's a Labradoodle and the other one is an Australian Labradoodle" The woman asked what the difference was and the woman told her an Australian one has IWS in it for the different coat type!?

lol!  Sounds like she got duped to me, I've never heard that one before!

Where does the Australian come from in that mix????  Have seen a Poodle with an Astralian Shepherd on a certain website that I won't mention!!  Wish I knew how to do angry faces!

The original idea for 'Labradoodles' came from Australia - they were to be Australian guide dogs. The original straightforward cross was developed, and other Parent breeds were added, and in 2004 the official name was changed. So the 'Australian' bit of the name comes from the country of origin; just like 'American cockers'.

Interestingly in developing the 'Breed' they have come across the predicted health problems and now are considering introducing more new blood to help.

Yeah JG I know about that, don't get why the person involved was told one was a Labradoodle and the other an Australian Labradoodle.!

Re health results.  The other breed has health problems, I think that the other two don't have as much, so that's adding yet other problems into the mix???
