Can I wash my puppy's bum?! And what with? She's got pooey bits stuck to the fur. We've only had her 2 weeks and someone suggested to me that you shouldn't wash them as it takes the scent of the litter and mother off them.
Help please.

You will be fine washing her now, even if you just do the dirty bits. I use a baby shampoo on young puppies.
That's great, thanks. How do you do it? Do you put them in a bowl? How about drying them?
Sorry, never had a puppy before!

It depends on the breed, might have trouble putting a newfoundland in a bowl <g>. If she is a small breed then the sink will be fine, other then that, the bath. Having a shower spray to rinse is useful. Also a rubber mat to stop the pup slipping, you could use a rubber mat out of the car. If it is a short coated breed then a brisk rub with a warm towel should be enough, keep her inside to dry completely, put a dry towel in her bed to take out any dampness left. If a long coat then your hairdryer should do it. Go gently with the hairdryer though as the noise can be a bit frightening at first for a young pup.
if its just her bum that needs washing pop her back legs into a bowl and give her a wash especially if she doesnt need a full bath.
sometimes you can comb of bits that have stuck to the coat !
Faithful and true to the last beat of his heart.

Another option is just to wipe off any yucky bits with a baby wipe, when you don't want to bath.
Everyone deserves a chance to fly

When our dog has a pooey rear, we just wet a few sheets of kitchen roll and 'blot' a few times - fresh as a daisy we call it! Also, has anyone tried using a microfibre towel to dry their dog? They are brilliant. After the bath or shower, just wrap the dog in and press gently and the towel absorbs the water like magic! You can wring out the towel and then blot again. We either use a hairdryer then, or if the weather is good he goes out to dry in the garden. Only has about 3 baths per year unless he's rolled in something yucky which is rare.

What breed is your dog?
Its too cold to bath a puppy at the moment. I would use an old flannel and warm water, just round his mucky bits, then towel puppy off. If puppy has a mucky backside, maybe cut back just a little on his food, or check the diet, ensuring puppy's poos are solid and dont smear his bum.

My puppy was all fur when i got him and used to get "cling ons" quite a bit. Maybe a little trim of the fur around that area when he's been cleaned off may prevent it from happening in future
The more i experience men, the more i appreciate dogs.
