Co-codomol from the parmcist is good :-)
And WITH DOCTORS SAY SO, so please go and see them before you do this,
I was advised by my doctor to take ibuprofen and co-codomol together for when I was in real pain with me knee and Jaw.

no advice hun (you could come to dundee and i can try and nab some morphine from the ward i'm in lol, alas its well guarded) but do try not to worry about the dentist, they are not out to cause you pain but help you. unfortunately making you well (as i am discovering) sometimes hurts a bit. good luck, deep breaths and try and remember it'll be over soon. also if your getting injections get them to put the numbbing stuff on your gum first- make such a difference!

Ask your pharmacist for advice.  I tried all types of painkillers and mine suggested co-codimol and nurofen taken four hourly but staggered in two hourly intervals. They worked a treat.  Only take the maximum allowed in 24 hours.

Orajel, you can get it from the chemist, it works like the numbing cream they put on at the dentist. I used it when I have a really bad toothache and the relief was amazing.

Nurofen Plus always works well for me (contains ibuprofen and codeine).

Edited to add: codeine is related to morphine apparently...maybe why it works so well cool

ETA again: just read that co-codamol is a combination of paracetamol and codeine. Learn something new everyday :-D

How weird, I was just about to come and ask for help. 3/4 of my tooth has just broken off (some below the gum line) and I was going to ask. Hope I can get some Orajel at the chemist (never heard of it) until I can get an appointment to have the remainder of the tooth taken out! Yikes

My Pharmacist told me you can double up with co-codamol and nurofen as they are different drugs.  When I say double up I mean as in what I have described above, every four hours on each but staggered at two hourly intervals.

That's because normal Nurofen doesn't contain codeine, only the Nurofen Plus does. Codeine is what's in co-codamol.

Tonight I saw CLOVE OIL GEL in Morrisons :-D  Clove oil is brilliant stuff for toothache ;-)   many don't like the taste tho ;-)   If using Clove oil you can't use aspirin or nurofen tho ;-)

clove oil is the most disgusting taste ever but great for tooth ache

I was reading an article the other day about Nurofen Plus becoming the next party drug, because of the codeine content!!  There's a new craze in US of people taking codeine, xanax, vicadum etc for recreational use! Weird people! What's wrong with a nice bottle of wine & a pizza on the way home?!! That's what I'm gonna be doing 2nite!

Poor you.  I have had two gum infections so far in my life and have never experienced pain like it (I would rather give birth again too!).  On one occasion I even fainted with the pain, which couldn't be relieved with painkillers at all.  Only thing that worked was the anti-biotics from the dentist.  Good luck and hope you're sorted out soon (the world will seem a better place).

did you know that apparently cheese has a natural form of codine in it? weird huh?

try a blob of sensodyne toothpaste onto the tooth-read somewhere it helps with toothache. if the pain is bad and you can't get an emergency appointment at your own dentist then you should be able to get the number of an emergency dentist from them, who could maybe put some sort of protective covering on it for you in the meantime, or else there is usually an emergency dental service available at some hospitals.
Good luck
