not sure if raspberry tea would be of use, if so you can get it in various supermarkets or quality tea shops. a proper tea shop might have pure leaves as well.

wee bit worried now that your asking that deamsami as i know your concerned about your girls pregnancy and i know what rasps do in pregnant women (dunno if the same applies for dogs), is it to help induce? (sorry if jumping to conclusions)

If it's for a dog, then Denes make raspberry leaf tablets, as do Dorwest Herbs. Take care to follow the manufacturers' instructions.

raspberry leaf in human pregnancy is suppose to make the uterus more efficient in labour not to induce labour as such. It is taken in the last few weeks of pregnancy. No idea about when to give dogs and not used it when i have bred.

You can by leaf form from health shops and in tablet form too.

it can induce labour, rasp leaves can cause contractions (my nephew held on for a long time after his due date, my sis tried everything!)

No it doesn't. And why on earth would you want them to? If newborn puppies don't smell of puppies then the bitch is likely to reject them.

A breeder recommended this to me back in the 1970's so it's obviously been popular for years.  I did try it with my first pregnant bitch back in the 70's, but she had an awful whelping, and I wasn't convinced!  Never used it since.

I've used it for all my bitches, and the whelpings have all gone very smoothly. I've not lost a puppy yet, so from that point of view I don't have a problem with it.

I haven't used the tablet or " leaf" form but have used the liquid from Caninechemists.

Used it as per manufacturers guidelines , disaster. Quite soon after using it my bitch began to actually bleed from the uterus.   It went on for hours. Vet wanted to wait to see if it would dry up but I was concerned for bitches safety so elected a c-section regardless of pups.   We ended up with one bitch, approx 7-8 days early that had to be hand reared.  Never again.  Only time I have ever lost any pups was this litter.  Even subsequent section on another bitch gave me 100% survival.

It didn't work for me. I personally think it needs far more advisory warning with the product.

It was used years ago to induce abortion.

I always use dorwest raspberry leaf tablets from the fourth week post mating and (touch wood) have had easy whelpings so far.I carry on using them for a week after whelping to help get rid of anything that may be left inside the bitch.
