hy would a puppy owner not want to get to know the breeder and pups as much as possible in the weeks of waiting

This is just a thought, but do you think the potential owner may feel they don't want to pester the breeder? They may want to see the pup each day, ring each day for progress, would love to have progress pics but feel they may be imposing at a time when the breeder is so very obviously busy bringing up the litter together with all the family commitments?

This is where I find the fact that many people have email so convenient as the new owner doesn't feel they are catching the breeder at a busy moment, as the emails will be answered when the breeder has time and it enable the breeder to send regular updates to everyone, especially with the ease of digital photography.

lol, see emails good. i suspect i'd turn into a bit of a puppy stalker and be calling everyday begging for pictures and to know if the eyes were open, had it stood up yet?, how did the first weaning go? is she playing a lot with the others? etc...

Coming in late here (been ill!) but just to say that what I do is upload a new page onto my website every week with new photos and updates of the puppies. That way all the buyers can follow the puppies week by week, don't feel the need to pester about photos as they know they will come, and it has been very popular.

I think I would worry that a breeder might think me too over zealous if I contacted them every week from birth to collecting a puppy. I wouldn't want them to think I was worried about getting the pup or totally obsessed with how it was getting on so would probably contact them a couple of times and then hope that they would let me know how things were going.

It must be quite hard getting the balance right between being an obviously enthusiastic and interested potential puppy purchaser and being wrongly misread as being too enthusiastic and "checking up" on the breeder.

This is why I personally think people should be judged on the home they provide not the social abilities or inabilities a new owner may possess. How could anyone getting a puppy not be thrilled? Especially if you have checked to see that they like dogs, aren't going to be a puppy farm and other general questions.

Also if breeders know they are only going to get one or two potential show quality dogs , surely the thought of lovely family with kids an the usual hustle an bustle of everyday life  would fill their hearts with glee ...Because the pup would be part of that too... Family life .....
