I really thought that Dobes could not be docked. I have seen a litter advertised saying they are 'docked and dew clawed...only Doberman in the uk.' (Is how its written) So how has that happened?

there is a breeder that brings pups over from ireland where they can still dock  so that could be the one

That's terrible. On the same subject as such, I saw a photograph in one of the dog papers of a Boxer with a tail, sorry to say it did look weird, though I think people need to think of the way that they hold them now.

I'm not anti docking, but as its lllegal now for most breeds I wondered how a Dobe could be docked legally. The ad says the breeder has been breeding for 39 years, their contact loosly gives the 'cornwall' end of the country, so its a long way from Ireland BUT they are starting at £700 and upwards, so maybe worth the travel unless thats what dobes go for?

The one i saw was again 30 odd years experience imported from ireland. One add says 950 but will sell for 750 without papers!!!!! that concerned me. if its same one they seem to adverise everywhere

I know of a breeder that imports docked Dobes and at one point was selling for £1,000, now down to around £700, so could be the same seller.

I saw an advert for a docked boxer in Melksham Wiltshire?

If they can prove that they are going to working homes then as far as I am aware then they are allowed to still dock them.... but then if that is the case they shouldn't need to advertise as the pups have already got homes??!
I spend too much time in here :-D

No Emz,  that ruling only applies to certain gundogs and terriers, no working group breeds come under that ruling.

I have owned dobermanns for 28 years and i have been looking for a new dobermann puppy for the last 12 months. I have spoken to a lot of breeders who have said that people are renting a cottage in ireland for 3 weeks where there is no docking ban taking their bitch over to whelp and then bringing the bitch and pups back to england docked. I thought i read on the kc website that people taking the bitch out of the country to do this would get into trouble as they are ignoring the docking ban if it isnt the bitches main residence ( if you know what i mean ) but i must be wrong because the kc have registered them with no probs. Also people are buying a puppy from Irish breeders that are docked because they dont want the tails over here so getting a ferry and bringing it back to england, so all wont be illegally docked. Alot of people havent got used to a dobermann with a tail yet as breeders have told me that what should be an £800 puppy they have still got at 5 months old reduced to £450 and still wont sell. For me it is more health tests, lines and temp. I would rather have a well bred puppy with a tail than a bad one without, I contacted someone with a docked advert i asked about lines and health tests and vwd, her reply was what is lines and i do not know what you mean about health tests my bitch was healthy so no need to take her to vets thats why she had pups and what is vwd. Needless to say i did not reply, so if anyone is after a dobermann puppy at the mo make sure you dont get one off these kind of people. Put health tests and background of puppy before tail, there are some lovely dobes out there at the minute but there are some muppets.( People i mean not the dog ).

Take care,

The KC won't know when they register a litter that the pups have been docked though, as far as the law goes it is where the docking takes place that is the issue.  In other words it is illegal to dock a dobe pup in England Scotland and Wales, not illegal to own one docked outside these countries.
