Im posting on behalf of my father who has an 8yr old setter boy and is looking for a pup as companion,
He has bred red and white setters over last 20 years until last year when he lost his last red and white bitch,

make sure the parents are health tested, should be herediatry CLAD free and also hipscored and eye tested.  Some breeders still dont hipscore and eye test, there are no excuses for this no matter how many they try to give !!
finally got my 5th silver 7 ..... 2 and a half stone off, only 8lbs to goal ... bring it on !

Yeah as i say its my dad whos looking and he has 20yrs of setter experience so knows what to look for, its just a case of finding the right breeder/litter as there have been so many advertised lately

Believe it or not hipscoring in Irish is quite new to most breeders, although more seem to be doing it now, I got my first boy 4 years ago and neither of his parents were hipscored, his mum was about 6 years old, his breeder has hipscored since then but alot of breeders wont hipscore because they say they dont have a problem, the reality is they are worried that they might have a problem !!  There are also a lot of pet litters about, people breeding, so it seems, for the sake of breeding.  I havent been in Irish long but I do show so know some of the lines and breeders, feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Hi Michelle, I'm another Irish Setter enthusiast. Currently I have two, the eldest is almost 12 years old and the new boy is only 5 months. I also live in the North East (Morpeth Northumberland). I only know of a couple of breeders in the area, but there are quite a few litters around elsewhere in the country.

Check out this link.

With scores ranging from 0 to 100 and a mean of 15 there is nothing to be complacent about in the breed.
