Previous Next Up Topic Other Boards / Foo / Where to buy a good reasonably-priced crate?
By Louisdog (**) [gb] Date 26.04.08 18:07 GMT
Hi all

I wondered if anyone had any recommendations on where best to buy a crate from? I am replacing my dog's crate as his current one is a few years old and looking a bit past its best. I can't remember where I bought it from though. I'd prefer one with a metal tray rather than plastic, and an up and over door.

Any suggestions welcomed, thanks!

Can highly recommend this one with the up and over door, though they don't do the metal tray.

Nuther vote for ebay :-) I got a 42 x 27 x 30 crate for £45 on there.  But heavy but very sturdy and it is currently making a rabbit very happy! :-p

If you know anyone that has a Batleys card ask them to get you one. The cages are on offer. The 42" is £24.99 plus VAT.
The reason a dog has so many friends is that he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

check out the type you like then look on ebay - we've bought all ours from ebay after pricing them up

and if you have an ebay voucher (we just got a £10 one :-) ) then it makes it even cheaper.

I've never paid more that £45 inc p+p, and all ours are 48"

Thanks for the reply Belgian Bonkers, I really like the look of those, can't decide on up and over door versus metal tray though!

Thanks for all your replies, I thought of Ebay but wasn't sure how to guarantee the quality.

Anyway I just asked hubby as I couldn't decide between metal tray and up and over door (can't find one with both) and have just ordered a smart black crate with metal tray from the site Brainless suggested - thanks Brainless!

I am sure Jake will love the new one, his old one has started to go a bit rusty on top, the new one is bigger and I am sure it is cheaper than the current one was - seems like they have got a lot cheaper than say 5 or 6 years ago.

Cheers

I have used these crates for years, the oldest is six years old and looks as good as new.  I've never had a problem with the plastic trays, well, never had any puppy chew them, put it like that!

Unfortunately my 8 year old, Jake, likes to chew the tray from time to time! A shame as I think the up-over-door would be great as it would tuck right out of the way.

Cheers

doghealth sell their crates on ebay which is cheaper than from them direct or used to be. Not sure what the seller name is but look for the picture of a guy stodd on top of the crate!!!

Thanks, I have made a note of all the other crate suppliers for future reference.

My new crate has arrived today, I was surprised how fast it turned up.

I haven't unpacked it yet, it's huge and really heavy, will let you all know if it's as good as I hoped! It's twice the size of the old one, whoops!

Cheers
