I have had my pup for a week now and yesterday afternoon she started to make a choking noise, I had a good look in her mouth as she had been playing with one of those rope type toys and I thought she may have a bit in her throat. Anyway there was nothing there but since then she is intermitantly making this hacking noise as if she is trying to cough something up. I am thinking it may be kennel cough but can't see how as her breeder doesn't have it there and none of my dogs have got kennel cough and have never had it. She is meant to be going to the vet for her 1st jab on Tuesday, do you think I shouild try to get her seen today incase it is KC with her being so young?

I'd definitely take her to the vet to play safe. I had a coughing pup once and it turned out to be distemper -the breeder didn't vaccinate her dogs so the pup had had no immunity from her mum. Always best to play safe when it comes to pups, but hopefully it won't be anything serious.

Yes I do but don't take her into the waiting room leave her in the car and wait for the vet to call you into their room or come to the car to examine the pup.

Hi,
Yes I would definatly take puppy to the vet.
What area are you in? Mine are alright so far, but not going out for walks as we have KC in the area. North West!
Blonde and Dyslexic!!!!!!!
kennel cough is rife through central scotland at the moment and it can sound like a choking noise, as though they are trying to cough something up. get her checked out to be on safe side.
OH has just come back from the vet with the pup and apparantly she has a cold! I didn't know that dogs get colds but there you go. Her glands are swollen and she has a bit of a sore throat, the vet said that she doesn't need AB's but if she becomes listless or her symptoms get worse to just give them a call and we can go and collect some.

Kennel cough is a Canine cold

Parainfluenza is Caine Flu and is vaccinated against. The Kennel cough vaccine (squirt up the nose) covers one type of KC, but there are loads just like with the common cold, and treatment is pretty much the same.
It can be dangerous for baby pups and very old dogs with compromised immune systems.
