ok not a question for myself, so the bitch is on day 10, apart from licking the stud dog has not tried to mount her until today but the bitch is barking and going for him could it be shes not quite ready, or would you go with the stud dog and hold her down? stud has some expirence the bitch only once

I would hold her steady - even if she is ready and has been mated before, some bitches really will go for the dog, I have heard of even Cavalier bitches knocking teeth out! Has your friend got someone to help? Most matings I have done / assisted in have had one person holding the bitch steady and another one helping to aim the dog - makes you wonder how accidental matings ever happen lol! Presume she has done all necessary health testing etc. :-)

If the dog has only just started showing interest then I would take her word for it and accept she isn't quite ready and try again next day.

I wouldn't be trying to hold an bitch who has previously had a litter this early on.  If she is standing and just playing a  bit hard to get and her behaviour is putting the dog off, then maybe, but there is no tearing hurry.
