I currently have an ancient ford fiesta that houses a dog crate for my BC to travel in in the back (boot/seats down) with another dog crate on the backseat that isn't folded down for my papillon (does that make sense?) I have just about enough space left to put in my grooming box, folding fishing chair and fold flat fabric dog crate for shows, and my kit bag of stuff for obedience on the passenger seat.

I am looking for a new dog car (second or third hand.. no need to be fancy!) that has a bit more space for both all my stuff and for possible expansion in the future and I'm wondering what cars you have for what dogs (and how many). I am half looking at a picassa or something similar but thought i'd see what cars other people use with other breeds - I don't need a van at this point in time

We have a Volvo V70 and in the boot (with tailgate and dog guard -gives such a lot more space than a cage as none is wasted) we fit in 3 Malinois when we go to shows, and on the backseat I can fit a cage large enough to fit 2 Papillons in if needs be, although I'm only showing one at the moment. Then put the rest of the stuff on the backseat or floor, and the two of us in front. Trouble starts if a third person wants to come along, LOL!

The Van types like the Fiat Doblo (the biggest) Peugeot Partner and Citroen Berlingo or Renault Kangoo, give the best of both worlds between people and dog transport.  With the rear  seats folded forward you have a  full van loading area, but with the seats up you still have plenty of room for the tallest dogs.

I have seen these vans with caged built it two storeys or for dogs underneath with space above/or under for storage.

We had a Renault Savanna for our first 'dog car'. It was great, loads of room with tailgate guard and dog guard fitted, in fact i still have the tailgate guard in my garage (free to anyone who wants it if they can pick it up ). Split rear seat too so lots of options for seating etc. The diesel one was quite economical but I can't remember when they stopped making them so old ones may be 'very' old.
We have an Espace now because we need extra seats but I believe the grand Scenic is really roomy.

Have just gone from a Ford Galaxy (great car, but now too big) to a Ford Mondeo Estate.  Car cage in back for Staffys and Belgians fit behind front seats.

We have a Zafira,we have a Barjo dog guard & tailgate so plenty of room for the dogs.My cockers & my sprocker all fit comfortably in it,as do my daughters 2  ESS (in their case to much room)

I used to have a Skoda Octavia estate. It was a fantastic car; cheap to run, cheap to buy and very reliable. I have a Silent traveller cage made for the Skoda with a divider that would be more than enough room for your BC and papillion to both ride in back in comfort (the boot is quite large in the Skoda). That would leave the back seat for the cage, chair and bag and room for a passenger in front.

But I wanted more room so I swapped the Skoda for a Renault Grande Espace. It's a 7 seater MPV and all of the seats can be individually folded down to create a table or removed completely (or reclined for snoozing). I usually have 5 seats in which still gives me room for a few dogs. My two goldens lie completely flat out on their side and there's still lots of room between them. I have a tailgate as my dog melts down if you try to cage him. He's very happy behind his tailgate. If I could use the cage (the one for my old Skoda) it would fit very nicely behind the second row of seats and there would still be room for stuff like bags and cages.

I have a Subaru Impreza WRX, 5dr (it's sometimes called the Sportswagon). I have an MMG made-to-measure cage in the back for my dog. It's a beautifully made cage, very solid, and not as expensive as some. The people at MMG can make cages to fit almost anything. I must admit that the car is half for me and half for the dog. I needed something to cope with dog + elderly parents, and I needed to enjoy driving it to and from work everyday (which is quite a distance). I am sold on the Subaru and would buy the same again. Great fun to drive and also surprisingly practical.

I have a Fiat Doblo but a MPV type with windows as opposed to a van type, I wouldn't want the stuffiness of a van especially with weather like we're having - windows down and the wind whips through!
My 3 LM's sit & lie comfortably in the boot area and they have loads of headroom.

MMG - Yes definitely 'the' cage people, Michele & Mick will do their best to accomodate every car shape & size.

I have a Mercedes A class (Diesel) bought in new, and it will be 8 years old this year.  It is fantastic, the comfort and drive feel way above that of other small MPV types, and very economical on the Diesel.  Have done 150k miles and it still runs perfectly.  On the 2nd hand market they do hold their prices fairly well, but still a great buy in my opinion.  You can take the back seats out completely if you want, or just fold them.  With the back seats in palce but slid forward (rear passenger can fit in but leg space a bit of a squeeze, you can get a smallsih (24"x21"x18") in the hatch, with room for equipment.  With the seats flipped you can fit in 2 bigger cages 30" long each.  With the seats out I get 3 30" cages in on the ground level, and can then fit in lots of equipment, or another 2 small cages (eg for the cat if we are all going away somewhere) on top.  With a built in cage I think you coudl easily fit in a 2 BC size with seats just flipped, and with seats out you woudl have space for trolleys etc as well.

I have an Astra Estate, W reg. It was ex-Government fleet car and came with a full history & was 4 yrs old with good mileage when I got it. I love it so much, it is such a comfortable drive and plenty of room.  It is a total work horse doing diy runs, wood yard runs, huge amounts of shopping etc and my Rough Collie and German Shepherd fit in easily. 

We have a Zafira too, but I'm not really allowed to put the dogs in there as there's convieniently no dog guard or tail guard. I suppose him indoors is allowed to have one dog hair free zone!!!

We have a vauxhall Zaf. XCLSV 16V (7 seats)It has plenty of room for the dogs you can put the back seats down also the second row back, an even bigger car is the Citroen Grand C4 Pic.1.8SX.(Large7seater) You can put the seats down also.
We had this on loan, it is enormous  inside, we had it while our 2 week old car!! was in for repair, as a white van driver ran in to it while parked and damaged all the front.
We spent a lot of time looking for a car with large boot space, The Vauxhall  was the best in the price range.

another Doblo fan here ! - just love my 'Dobby' plenty of room for three Belgians and all their gear and I've never had a moments worry with it ( and it has air con and a CD fitted as standard )

Loved my Peugeot Partner and would not have given it up but I have a company car.

I now have a Ford Galaxy which has great head room for dogs and lots more air to keep them cool in summer than my previous Ford Focus Estate.

Doblo mpv for me also - you cant beat them in my opinion
