By issysmum [gb] Date 22.07.01 14:12 GMT
We are looking for a breeder who is expecting to have puppies born after Feb next year. Puppies must be KC registered and used to a family atmosphere with children, if poss.

Does anyone know of anyone who will be breeding next year, and how much the puppies are likely to be - ideally we would like a bitch, 2 if Cockers.

If cockers we would be looking for golden roan or solid golden.

Thanks for your help.

Here I go again! Do you know what to expect if you get a clumber? They are not the dog for everyone and are WILDLY different from a cocker spaniel - about twice as big, they moult constantly and drool a lot. Plus they're stubborn, wilful and prone to hereditary problems with legs, eyes, etc. That having been said, I wouldn't be without one! A clumber spaniel puppy now costs upwards of £600.

Do you want a puppy as a pet or to work (or to show?). You could contact Mrs Kirkman from the Clumber Spaniel Society on 01204 709631, or Mrs Williams at Clumber Spaniel Rescue 01474 873526. If you were interested in working, then contact me and I can give you the number of the Working Clumber Spaniel Society. ninthmusketeer@yahoo.co.uk

Don't know anything about cocker spaniel pups, but they're much easier to get hold of.

Thanks for the reply - Yes I do know what to expect with Clumbers, a friend in the States has one. She is exactly as you've described, but gorgeous nonetheless!!!
We'd be looking for a family pet, not a working/show dog.

I'll call the rescue lady later this year and give her my details. Thanks for your help.

Hi Fiona

There are certainly many more Cocker Spaniel breeders than Clumber breeders but it can be quite difficult to locate orange roan bitches & gold bitches are always much in demand, so its probably just as well you're starting your enquiries early! Its best to contact breeders through one of the many Cocker breed clubs - if you let me know where you live, I can give you some contact numbers. Prices for Cocker pups vary according to location - from about £350 up to £500. Just like Clumbers, Cockers have their share of hereditary problems eg PRA (eye disease) & some hip dysplasia so be sure to only buy from breeders who screen their dogs for these problems.

Ooh. What are you getting?

An orange roan cocker spaniel bitch - hopefully!! We took advice from the breeder and agreed with her that 2 puppies would be quite a handful, so we've decided just to have the one.

Good luck. I'm sure your new addition will turn out beautifully.
